Howdy folks, I'm hoping there is some wisdom out there that could be of help. I'd like to increase the volume of everyone's voice chat WITHOUT making the shooting and other sound effects louder.
It seems like I consistently have to crank my volume way up to hear anyone, but then the explosions and gunshots are so loud. I've seriously started wondering how much hearing damage is being caused by TF2. With the constant re-spawns putting you right back in the action there are hardly any quiet moments. At least with a game like CS you spend a good portion of your time sneaking around or dead, not shooting nonstop for an hour.
And to clarify the obvious: My settings in-game, "Voice Receive Volume" is maxed out. Game Volume is very low. Music Volume is all the way low.
Not sure if it matters by in my Steam client settings I have Voice Tab "Receive Volume" maxed as well.
Any thoughts? Any console tricks?

Re: Increase voice volume
You can try increasing these convars:
voice_scale is the volume for voice
voice_overdrive determines how much the game volume decreases when voice is active (the higher it is the quieter the game volume is)

Re: Increase voice volume
Thanks again Stevo. voice_scale seemed to work. It distorts the sound a little but I can probably live with it. I'm gonna try the overdrive next and see how it does.
