In game friends list not working

Post by Dirty Dan » Mon May 17, 2010 3:14 pm

Starting about 4 days ago (I hadn't changed any settings) my in-game friends interface stopped coming up when I press shift+tab. I tried changing the key combo but it's not coming up no matter what key I assign it. I've tried changing settings, restarting, everything I can think of...it's bizarre. It's hard to seed servers when I can't invite anyone. Thanks for the help with my omni-present computer issues, everyone :)

The setting is not under 'Friends' it's the 'In-Game' tab to enable the overlay during games. I know some games are messed up by the overlay being active and function better if you turn it off (Mass Effect, I'm looking at you), so you're sure you might not have changed it?

What's your keystroke for the In-Game Overlay - still Shift+Tab? Might you have re-mapped something?

Yeah I've covered all that. I said in the OP that I tried remapping and everything; wont work with defaults, wont work with any I've tried. It can't get it to come up at all.

This thread blames the issue on ATI tools on screen display.

I couldn't find any other results that would be helpful. Caveat: 3 minute search time.

Sorry, for some reason at home the image didn't show at home. I asked about re-mapping wondering if you'd mapped mouse keys or something that might interfere, but if you've tried different things that's not it.

Is it working in any games or is it just TF2?

Have you messed with your IE at all lately? As I understood it, the overlay uses IE for pretty much everything (or at least it did before the new design went from beta to official).

I believe that the browser is now Valve's own creation based on Webkit.

The problem seems to be caused by EVGA Precision, it's listed as a known issue. It's frustrating because that means I'm going to have to open and close the program every time I want to change my fan speed.

Instead try using the control panel from Nvidia: http://www.nvidia.com/object/nvidia_sys ... _6.06.html

Not only can you adjust performance settings such as fan speed and GPU frequency, you can also set up special rules to have settings adjusted automatically. I set it to automatically increase my fan speed to 80% when I'm playing games and then back to 40% when I'm done playing. If you'd rather just manually adjust it yourself each time you can do that too.

I agree :P or backup your games and reinstall steam if you still cant get a fix. (and don't actually reinstall windows) (unless you want to)

I had this Problem too for a few days.

I just went to Games, then game properties of TF2, then Local files.
and did a
verify Integrity of game cache
and then
defragment Cache Files
and it went to normal.

Play in window mode. I play every game in window mode now to manage temperatures and PC performance easily.
