Now for the second hardest part (other than paying for it all), the waiting...

Is it here yet?

why did you get a sound card?

on board audio is just as good, and most people won't notice the difference.

that's the only problem I saw with your build, though it doesn't matter now since you already ordered it.

hope you enjoy it! :P

I can tell a difference between my onboard X58 sound and my ASUS Xonar Essence STX. I can't stand onboard, granted the Xonar STX is a highend headphone card but there's still a significant difference.

When I had an Audigy 2 platinum a couple years back it gave me more problems then what it was worth. I can't even notice a difference between onboard and an addon card.

Re: New compiled computer

Sorry that I have not update this thread for a while.

Well i placed the order last Wednesday night, not all components were on stock so they had to order them. On Friday, literally 1.5 days after I placed the order all components were on stock except of the case. So I asked them if they could prepare the order to be picked up, on Friday noon, and even that they managed to get done. So I bought my new computer 1.5 days after my order, which is insane for a online shop not having all items on stock.

I had the computer build together within 2.5 hours and its running since then without any issues.

It just took me quite some time to install it the way i wanted to have it. As I have 2 RAID controllers i did some performance tests and these took a while.

Also the copying process of the game files 150GB took quite a while too (1 day). Let me tell you this, do not use NTFS links or junctions. They don not work well when you try to access them via network access (SMB). The copy process just got stuck and and refused to even cancel the current copy process. It took me ages to find the root for this cause as I didn't have any error message at all.

Since then I am migrating one game at at time over to my new steam installation.

You might wonder how i build my computer without a case. Well I salvaged my old computer out of its case to gain a empty case to build my new computer into it.

And i will have to do that again as soon as i get my new case.

But hey otherwise I would still be grounded and not being able to play with you guys :D

Regarding the software and the SB card. I really didn't care much the Windows update installed the drivers for it. And works pretty nice since then. I added the sound card because on board sound has some draw backs. And I had to by a new card because I wanted to save the PCI slots for for the future.

My new computer consists of only new pats except for the input devises, the monitor and the case (right now).

Also I added a 8 GB USB stick for ReadyBoost. Not sure if it did any improvement but I at least feel so. Booting WIndows 7 is really quick right now.

Also I like the fact that task switching even from to games almost works instant (except of Source engine games, known "issue/limitation"), that's because of the 8GB or system ram.

Maybe someday i will kill all the LED's on the fans, its pretty anything to have the computer shine from inside. I don't like shiny PC's they are there to do their job, I don't want to win a price or OC it.

Anyhow so far I am pretty happy with the system :)
