Dual Core Processors

Post by regis » Tue Jan 16, 2007 10:30 am

Are they worth it?

I have an AMD Athlon 64 3500+ right not, but I think I want to upgrade to a 64 x2.
Either:

or

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6819103544

The only difference i saw between them was the cahce size. Would the extra $25 be worth it?

[EDIT] On a side note from those..
Think I should get more RAM too? I have 2 512MB sticks right now, would it be better to add 2 more 512 or 2 more 1gb sticks?

i have the duo core 2 from intel... its faster when running multiple applications, but for games? not really FASTER unless you have a game that was prohrammed to use both cores. But they are slowly going to become the standard.
THIS IS MY SIGNATURE. THERE ARE MANY LIKE IT, BUT THIS ONE IS MINE.

Definitely get the one with more L2 cache...You WILL notice a difference. The extra $$ is always worth the cache.

My southern friend Willie has given wise advise, dual cores are slowly becoming mainstream. You may not utilize them to the full effect now, but a year or two down the road...

The RAM is your choice. If you like newer games, go for it. 1 GB is no longer the standard.

Ditto on the dual core.

As for memory, if you want the 2Gb I would probably settle for the 2 extra 512's. It would accomplish the 2gb's for less. Someone else may have more technical specs on why you might want two 1gig sticks, but from my experience getting them in equal pairs and smaller amounts allows for more usage and just as much storage with quicker responses.
