How does wattage work in a PSU?

How much can a 320 watt handle?

wattage on the PSU says how much power your computer can use. so a 320 watt PSU means that all the parts in your computer combined must need no more than 320 watts to run. This includes everything that has to be plugged in, motherboard, HDDs, CD roms, video cards, fans, case lights, PCI cards (they add to the mother board's power need), ect...

this all depends on what you have for a system. processor, number of drives, video,etc. in todays age get a 500w ps. Compusa has one for $60. It is actiually 540 or 560w. The cables are modular. Haven't had any problem with it.. Toms hardware actually did a pretty good write up on them looking at effeicency of different brands. Might want to swing there and take a look.

I don't know about your location but most of the CompUSA stores in Mass and New Hampshire are closing. :(
