DVD Back up
I'd like to back up my DVD collection onto a hard drive. Does anyone know of any good software that rips DVDs into a common video format (avi, wmv, ect) while maintaining DVD quality? I mostly want to do this to back up my disks, but I also want to be able to stream movies right to my xbox 360. Free software would be prefered, but I'm willing to spend $50-$100 if the software works.

I remember using something in the past called virtualdub that worked for me for the exact same thing. It was a little quirky, but it worked and was free. However, now I am putting all my movies onto my iPod and I am using VideoWizard, which has done everything I need and is super simple to use. I can do low, med or high quality and it works. The high quality is almost very acceptable on my 60" when played through my iPod.

I don't know if it's what you're exactly looking for, I know you said software...but you also mentioned wanting to watch it on your xbox. It's a bit out of price range though, $179
