Georgia flag update?
I was just posting in Plinko's birthday thread and noticed that the Georgia state flag on the boards is the outdated (and hideous) "place mat" flag. Any way we can get an update to the current one? Though I would miss the l33t Telemark axe.

Re: Georgia flag update?
Gruel is correct. The flag on this board was only used for a couple of years, and is regarded as hideous by most Georgia residents.

Re: Georgia flag update?
Excellent. The Georgia villuns thank you without a doubt. I agree about the "place-mat" flag. It is fugly.
The story about the recent changes to the Georgia flag is interesting. The flag used from the 50's prominently featured the Confederate battle flag (known as the "Stars and Bars" or "The Southern Cross"). There are many opinions why the CSA battle flag was used (federal desegregation is one); however, it was most definitely offensive to some folks. When the Olympics were held in Atlanta, a decision was made to change the flag. What a can of worms...
What's ironic is that the present flag which everyone seems to like is based upon a different and less well-known flag of the Confederacy.
I am keeping quiet around my co-workers about my utter ignorance of issues surrounding the state flag, now I can passably pretend to know something about it!
Be cautious. Some folks get all passionate about it.

Re: Georgia flag update?
Thanks an absolute ton, Dog!
DOW has it mostly right...
No question in my mind that the 1956 flag was adopted in defiance of the growing civil rights movement and the Brown v. Board of Education of Topeka supreme court decision (though there are those who would deny it), but the flag actually didn't change in time for the Olympics. The city of Atlanta decided that they would fly the pre-1956 flag instead of the then-current flag as at the Olympic venues in the city.
I'm glad the flag changed, I'm sorry it took so long, and I'm thankful that we changed from the political compromise to a handsome flag, which is essentially the first national flag of the CSA with the Georgia Arch in the canton.
Love that Arch.
