To make people feel better about blasphemy'ing Jesus? BY not 'technically' saying His name?

It's actually Jesus "The Hammer" Christ. Jim "The Hammer" Shapiro is his descendant. Or so I hear.

personally I don't think any initial is gonna make it any better ... it's still blasphemy!!! The worst about it is that it is usually people who don't even believe in Jesus or God who choose to use His name in swearing...it's disgusting to say the least!!

I'm gonna regret this just because im entering a topic of religion. But I personally dont even think saying something like "G-dammit" or "Jesus H. Christ" is blasphemy or "taking the lords name in vein."

Its us, people who give words meaning and power. A word is just that... a word, it isnt untill a person gives it meaning and power that it becomes useful as a weapon.

I always beleived that taking the lords name in vein was something like... if you used the word of god for personal benifit. IE: Like the church did during medieval times.

I'm probably going to regret it too...but

My personal philosophy is to err on the side of caution....allow me explain...
if I were to use phrases like "G-dammit" or "Jesus H. Christ" and it isn't considered by God as using His Name in vain then by not saying it I haven't lost anything...but on the other hand: if I did use it and He do consider it to be using His name in vain I'll be in *big trouble*

...knowing HIM, I'll rather play it safe ...

Understandable, I often use that philosophy when having discussions like this with my dad and other religious people. Gah, theres alot I wanna discuss here seeing as recently religion has become a hot topic around my house. That and the fact getting input from many more people would be much more enlightening. But I also dont wanna drop the mother of all "epic debates" on the ville. Its sure to stir up some emotions or heated convos, along with the fact that I have some abstract opinions.

As far as for what you said there Kate: I'd make some sort of rebuttle but I agree and disagree with you at the same time. I beleive that if you see it that way then by all means you should follow it. At the same time, just because I beleive you should do it, that doesnt mean that I do it, or should.

Hmm I hope that didnt come out too agressive
