Just because someone is a Follower of Christ..does not make them religious. I hate it when people at work call me "religious."

Oh well. Some of us have certain convictions, thats why we have free will. Some people see it as blasphemy, some just word usage, and others don't give a flying crap. Everyone is entitled to their own beliefs, and being the Ville, we generally keep out the flaming.

On another topic, if anyone would like to discuss beliefs, following Christ, or anything, I"m all ears, hit me up with a PM, or AIM (mujomonster), or xfire: muj0. I love to talk, and there's never enough time on the servers

The Christogram symbol derived from the first three letters of the Greek name of Jesus, transliterated as "IHS" or "JHS". Since "IHS" gave rise to the backronym Iesus Hominum Salvator (Latin for "Jesus savior of men"), it is plausible that "JHC" gave rise to "Jesus H. Christ"

Or "Henry"

First let me correct Decon by explaining that it's "Vain" not "Vein" as in blood conduit.

When we use God's name in this way we are taking a foul word that is designed to be offensive like f*&k, or S#@#t, and placing God's name there instead. Using the name of our loving God to bring attention to our anger or frustration.

Let's face it people use foul language because somewhere in life they learned that those words demand attention. The attention may not always be positive, but ears will perk reguardless. Even though this form of cursing has become "accepted" of late does not make it ok.

What is right and wrong is not up to us, if it were whe world would be a terrible place. People would do whatever they wanted including rape, murder, incest, and the like. All you would need is one person saying it was ok because we don't believe that what God said is true. For example, the holocoust, slavery, and abortion.

Now I am not saying that if you use the Lord's name in vain you are going to horrible atrocities against others. What I am saying is that it is wrong reguardless if you think so or not.

For those of us who have a relationship with Christ this is the most offensive type of swearing. I can tolerate the "F" word more than using the God's name to express your disgust at something. That is my God's name not just some word.

From now on when you feel like swearing why not try using your mother's mane instead? It will get peoples attention and will only be offending your own mother not everyone (there are a lot of us) who believes in Jesus Christ. When you think about it makes just as much sense as using His name.

heh, feel free to PM me. I would say use AIM, but I don't keep it on all the time. I won't get into debates on forums though.

thanks for the spelling correction, i dont often think about how a word is spelled... but rather how i form my opinions on paper... or in this case on the monitor.

I would gladly get into some sort of debate here on the forums as long as people keep it civil :) Like I said before it would be a good opportunity to get multiple opinions from multiple people, rather than the same veiws I always hear from the people I talk about this stuff with.

I'd rather be part of a forum that can have this type of communication. I mean the funny pictures and regular blah, blah, blah is cool too. Once in a while I find it interesting to discuss something a little more meaningful though.

I enjoy lively debate, but all to often in the forum environment it seems to quickly descend into "ad hominem" arguments, rather than discussing the ideas themselves.

I think that JEHU expressed something very close to my sentiments. I make a distinction beween vulgar and profane. The F and the S word while vulgar (common, or coarse) are not profane, whereas using the name of the Diety as a swear word is. Martin Luther (the reformer) used some very vulgar language but was NEVER profane.

Neither do I consider it profane when during a great calamity or news of some dreadful event someone mutters or whispers, "Dear God" or "Dear Jesus" or even "Oh my God". In that circumstance it is usually a sincere appeal for God to have mercy on us.
