Since TF2 came out, one of my friends from CoH told me about The Ville servers and how an old friend of ours (Upmann on CoH) was helping out to keep them going. So six of us have been playing on each of them ever since and have loved every minute of it.

But this weekend, we saw three servers that had room for one last person to make teams even at 12-vs-12; server was at 23/24. So we click on them and 95% of the way through it being loaded we get disconnected with the message like "Sorry. This slot is reserved for admins and " where it gets cut off at the and. Are all your servers like this? It's just disappointing when you are about to start playing and get disconnected, or worse, there is 24/24 and you click on Auto-Retry and when it finally goes through, you get disconnected at 95% loaded with this same message because the slot that just opened up for you is reserved.

Just an outsider's, who enjoys playing on your TF2 servers, two cents.

Welcome to the forums Turl!

First let me apologize for the inconvenience...

This is a product of VALVe not releasing the full SDK/admin tools. We have to reserve slots this way. Its not our choice to "remove" a playable slot. In short there needs to be a slot open for an admin to get on and keep the peace when needed. Would you rather be on an un-admined server full of jack holes? I know I dont...

So this is how will ensure an admin can run the server properly. As soon as there is a viable alternative we will be pursuing that.


Thanks for your concern and patience as we ALL wait for these little hurdles to be overcome... the modders are playing cat and mouse trying to keep up with all the updates.

Yes it was, solider is great when you uber charge into a base. I love how the turrets shove me right into the CP.

Hi Turl and welcome.
For our Supporters and people who contribute to the Ville, we reserve one slot. If it doesn't get filled, unfortunately, anyone joining will be unable to use it if they are not a Supporter.

Due to VALVe's limitations, we cannot get it to tell players early on, not to join this server as the slot is reserved. It's a pain and we'd like a better plugin.

As B says, we are still looking for alternatives.
But we have five servers. Surely one of them is bound to be available!

Heya Turl! Glad to see you got a forum account.

I'm the friend that gave Turl the info on these servers. I'm glad that he has had as much fun as I have on playing on these servers. The friend from CoH that got me hooked on The Ville was a guy we called Upmann (You guys know him as PowderMilkman). Since I started playing again here, I haven't seen him on much anymore.

I've noticed that all 5 TF2 servers stay pretty full at night, which is awesome. However, I wish the reserved slot thing worked perfect, but hopefully all of that will get worked out by the modders
