Addiction gets thrown around too much these days. I can understand a physical dependency and maybe a few deeply psychological problems being classified as addictions. Video games though? No. If you're failing school or neglecting friends/work/etc due to video games, that's just a self-discipline issue. Naturally some people want a scapegoat though. "It's not me, it's my addiction to video games!"

Then again, everything is a mental disorder today, especially things that can get people out of being parents.

Well said. I absolutely agree, but would further include anything that will allow people to avoid responsibility for their decisions, actions etc.
