western washington has nothing to complain about. they just don't know what snow is because of all the rain. then when the snow comes, they all flip out and shutdown their airports.
While I agree that our area flips out when it snows (I swear, everybody forgets how to drive in this stuff every year), we didn't shut down our airport. All these various news agencies seem to have been reporting that, but we were open for business. One of our major airlines cancelled 60 flights, resulting in about 9000 people needing to rebook, which took days. Ironically, that airline is the one that serves Alaska, where they get as much snow as we had all week in a single day :-P A couple other airlines cancelled one or two flights each, due to not being able to bring in the planes necessary to fly back out, but we still had something like 30,000 people depart that day.

Can you tell I work at the airport? Haha. :-P

There's a fair bit of snow over here, but it's not even that bad.

That being said, it was nice enough today for my parent's and I to barbecue steak and potatoes outside. :D
Pfft wimps. I can barely notice there's snow :p.
We have highway passes close here in So Cal if there is any snow, really.

Apparently, it really comes down to infrastructure and preparedness. i don't even own any snow chains.

And I hear that in Seattle, they won't salt the roads and don't have 'real' snowplows.

Having spent some winter time in upstate NY, it's all about the road clearing equipment. Up there, they even had little mini-plows to clear the sidewalks. I saw people jogging in the snow.

Yeah, I was tech supporting my 70+ to mom on the phone while driving to San Diego in the rain. Every 2 minutes she would ask if I was OK driving and talking.

She ends up needing a new modem, and has to order it from SpankyMcWilliams CableIntermodenet or whatever in Seattle. it's stuck somewhere cause UPS can't make the delivery. The ground is like... all white and slippery and stuff. I guess all that left turn avoidance isn't helping now, is it?? IS IT???

I give my moms credit, though. She isn't too shy to jump in and figure out that the skinny wire goes to the phone jack, and the fat wire goes to the computer or printer or whatever.

I got this call yesterday:

Moms: 'Hi Will, I know I am bothering you, but I can't print.'

SU: 'No worries, Mom. Remember that your printer and Windoze machine are still connected to your router.'

Moms: 'Yes, but I am worried because my laptop (Mac) is now connected to the modem. Is that OK?'

SU: 'You bet, you just have the laptop on the intarwebs now, and your own network that is not on the intertubes.'

SU: 'Uh, mom, can I call you back?'

((Short intermission as I use the potty and entertain myself with thoughts of the horror Moms would feel if I chatted her up while making #2))

Moms: 'I just noticed something. Remember that I unplugged the router (ed: three days ago).'

((REPEL BLASPHEMY ATTACK ATTACK PARRY CONFESS!))

SU: 'Yep.'

Moms: 'It's still unplugged. Could that be it?'

((A Black orc on Warhammer Online is eating my face, and a Witch Elf is uncomfortably close to my back side))

SU: 'Yeah, uh, that'll do it!'

((You have been killed by; Beefy McOrcpants . . . Respawn))

Longest 'it isn't plugged in' story on the intarflugplatz!

I'm in the Seattle area too, the snow just wouldnt stop coming.. every day a few more inches... Yesterday it rained and I was just so happy, the snow started melting and the roads were passable again.
All the roads except mine of course >.< The snow plow came down our road, but failed to push any snow out of the way.

Cause your gubmint won't use the steel bladed plows. They use rubber bladed ones that don't get ALL the snow because the steel ones gouge the road...

That's from 12/17 before the snow really started coming down. But the ups trucks were all chained up and on the go during the worst of it.

No, it's more along the lines that he cleared about 5 feet of snow into someone's driveway, then turned around, lost traction for a bit, then left without even attempting to clear more snow.
