Mapping Collaboration?
Mapping Collaboration?
Hey all, I was just curious if any of our very prestigious, incredibly skilled Ville mappers were interested in collaborating on a map. I've got one that's in the works, and the design (little to no texturing yet) is mostly done; as in, there's 4 of 5 cap points made, and probably 85% of the landscape in place.
I'm sort of stuck in limbo at the moment, though, because I'm having trouble working up the drive to keep chipping at it. For a couple reasons:
1. I'm not sure how to do some of the things that I want to do for the final cap point area.
2. I'm very slow at accomplishing much, and it's been a long time since I messed with hammer, so it'll undoubtedly be even slower
3. Doing texturing, displacements, skyboxes, etc. for the entire map is very daunting.
If anyone's interested in helping, or if you'd like to see some screenshots first, or if you want the file, just let me know here.

I would be more than happy to swing the axe a few times
upload the vmf somewhere so I can tinker!
Im good at detail work (textures, props, decals, etc)
and some optimizing too
edit: oh I can do all the skybox, 3d skybox, displacements, too
edit again: including all the environmental stuff like soundscapes and lighting, wind, smoke, dust motes, powerlines, moving water.....
I wish it made me cool though

If it makes you feel any better, the rest of us mappers think you're pretty cool.

I know that I wish I had those skills. Everytime I see one of l3eeron's maps for the first time all I can think is "Oooh shiny!"

Sorry for using RapidShare (I find it really obnoxious), but that's the only way I could think to get it hosted.
You'll notice it just cuts off before the 5th cap point. If you just seal that off, it should be compilable, in case you want to run around and get a feel for it. In case you can't tell from flying around for a bit, here's the idea for the map (done in paint! yay!):

It's currently set up to be a standard back-and-forth CP map (like Badlands or Well), but I'm thinking it might work out better as a one-way attack/defend map with blue on defense.
ps. One thing to keep in mind: This is my first real map, and I was learning on the fly, so there's sure to be a lot of things that are done one way that could be done much better in another way. So don't be too hard on me.
