Decompiled TF2 stock maps

Post by l3eeron » Wed Jan 16, 2008 11:05 am

** Links updated 12/31/08

If you've ever wondered...

How'd they do that? You might not be able to ask directly, but now you can look at their techiques.

Here are the links to the stock maps decompiled. That means you can open the .vmf and look at exactly how the devs did that tricky spot. Very helpful when a map has something on it you want to reproduce on your own map.

(I did not decompile these, and I don't maintain these links)

*Note: Compressed in .ZIP format. 91MB down to 7MB

Capture points:
DUSTBOWL
GRANARY
GRAVEL PIT
WELL
BADLANDS

Capture the Flag:
2FORT

Payload:
GOLD RUSH

Territory Control:
HYDRO

Arena:
LUMBERYARD
RAVINE

** note the omission of the community maps badwater, fastlane, steel, and turbine. Also, CTF_well seems to be missing, will try to track it down.

VMEX

Here is the tool to decompile maps yourself.

Please, only decompile maps to learn the details of construction. Do not copy/paste things or "port" user created maps.

apparently not, seeing as the links don't work. Just thought I should mention that, maybe somebody can provide new links?

I believe these are still working.

Yes, these are still good. Remember when downloading .vmf files you have to right click and save as.

(will update OP, thank you)
