Post by D.B.Cooper » Fri Jun 29, 2007 8:06 am

So what do you guys think of it?
I for one think its cheap, takes the fun out of the game. Noticed it is being used more and more on our servers.

It was an exploit

*edit* ^^

Ill ban anyone purposely using this to gain an unfair advantage

When you have a rifle, you discharge a round, then instead of letting the animation reload your gun, you use the mouse wheel to roll back n forth between rifle/pistol. When you get back to rifle, its reloaded...shaving a half second off your reload time. Which is an exploit.

Thats why they banned combining "+lastinv" to any "+attack" bind. Can you imagine, with a single click...

shoot gun, switch to pistol, switch to rifle (now reloaded) instantly with one click

AH! I've seen it!
Well, "Beaner" was on TV3 again today. I went observer and recorded a couple of demos... While he's running, the pistol and rifle keep switching within a blink of an eye.
Now I know what it's used for. Anything to cheat the reload time is definitely, at the very least, an exploit, IMHO.

Right on, l3eeron! :hb:

I think you might have to bind "f8" to record a demo.

"Pistol rolling" only happens in 1.3, right?

Pistol rolling can be used in source as well...

To make it simple:

bind f8 "record villedemo 32"
will start recording a demo named "villedemo" at 32 frames per second.

bind f9 "stop" will stop the recording

Heres a more in depth explaination (for source, HL1 games use the same commands to record/stop):

Pistol rolling has been done in 1.3 forever. It’s never been enforce because nobody could ever determine if it was an exploit or not.

If you start banning for pistol rolling you’ll be banning a lot of people. I don’t think anybody here at the Ville has been banned for it before.

i always thought that pistol rolling was just a myth...that it actually didnt shave off any time of the reloading. ppl just think it does, but in actuality it doesnt.

thats what i was always taught or told about the matter at least. ppl just do it so that if they are shooting a rifle, then they have a second option if they miss their shot and gotta start using the pistol to save their life.

Actually....

Upon further investigation. Squirrel is right. Steam has fixed that exploit. You can roll back n forth but no time difference actually happens. It may look like they're trying to use the exploit, but you cant =). So dont start yelling at someone whos rolling the pistol to get out of scope or anything. Its all good :D
