Why not DOD:S?
I am wondering, what is it about DOD:S that is unattractive to the players who regularly play DOD here?
My best guess is that it's that the maps aren't the ones that y'all want to play, but I also suspect that it may be gameplay mechanics.
I noticed that everything just seems a little... different in DOD:S, so that I have to ramp up individually on each game to start getting any kills...

Re: Why not DOD:S?
Well for one, Source is more demanding on the system, so some people don't have a good enough computer. There's also the attachment people have to DoD 1.3 from years of playing. Also, DoD:S is kind of a dumbed down version with pretty graphics to attract a mainstream crowd. It's almost a simplified CS in a different setting. There are less weapons, more random bullet spread, and lack of the British. There are other reasons I'm probably forgetting.

Re: Why not DOD:S?
Geeeez
Where do I start...
#1 reason why DoDS didnt succeed like 1.3 did - Lack of content/attention from valve. That translates into a hard to fill server. There are literally hundereds of WWII FPS games. DoDS has nothing to set itself apart, 'cept a devoted, yet finicky fan base. The things that everyone was happy with in 1.3 never made it over to Source. Im talking about the brits, the omitted secondary melee for rifles, and well defined cone of fire. I remember my first round of DoDS... I chose mp40 (my weapon of choice in 1.3) I ran into the fray, emptied a whole clip at someone 2 feet away from me and didnt kill him... instant turn off. Valve never updated the content. The 1337ers scared away the n00bers. As Stevo said, alot of 1.3 guys didnt have the hardware to run source. I mean the cards were stacked against this game from day one.
...and this is just half the story.
We at the ville, did everything imaginable to boost the game. The thing that worked the best a stock map rotation with ff on and a server with low pings.
It was a tough couple o' years
hhahahah SU... were the one most killed on my list.
GG though..
So what does 1.3 have that source doesn't?
Ya, I was stinking worse than usual, and now I have my answer why. I was having exactly that MP40 experience, where it seemed like the game LOOKED better, but the weapons just wouldn't hit..
I am a spray and pray player, anyway, so haven't gotten so good with the rifles, but I intend to try on these games, 1.3 in particular. I am having fun with it, but I stopped playing TF2 on the 360 because the games had so few people, so the DOD experience seems more relaxing, if that makes sense.
Thanks for the responses, guys. That bears out what I was thinking, experiencing, and beyond..

I believe most were already mentioned. More guns, more maps, i'd say more accurate guns, bots. If there weren't any bots for 1.3 we'd be seeing just as many people on that server as on the DoD:S.

Re: Why not DOD:S?
I pre-ordered dodS and couldnt wait for it to come out. I had a naive notion that it would be the same as 1.3 just a little prettier and with more options. But alas, nothing new. It was a ruff begining but I hung in there, but it didnt get much better. And to be totally honest, I didn't like the Grenade change. in 1.3 if u get killed with a nade in motion, momemtum kept the nade going in ur direction, but in source it falls at ur feet or under ur body. Plus I really like the *THUMP* of the rifle butt kills.
Re: Why not DOD:S?
The original DOD 3.0 to 1.3 was an awesome game. You could play for hours and not notice the time go by. You needed to develop a skill to survive and have fun.
Source never lived up to the fun 1.3 provided.

That about sums it up for me, but I still like playing source every now and again.
