changing in game name

For awhile I had assumed your in game name had to be same as your steam name because the "name" command never worked. Some digging I found out your in game name can be different using the following command:

setinfo name "=USV= LJ"

Figured others had the same problem as me so I thought I'd post.

Also, I tried to add that to autoexec.cfg or config.cfg and it wouldn't change my name. Still had to do it in console in game. But, if you did have it in the autoexec.cfg file it's faster to do "exec autoexec.cfg" in console.

Maybe i'm missing something completely obvious about having it in a cfg file...

It's really easy to change if you go through Steam Community. It's not as simple as the old "name" command, but it works.

Yes, but that means your steam name is same as in game name which is what this gets around. My steam name is mine. I shouldn't have to use my guild tag in that name.

I'm still not happy with the way valve has done this. For some reason valve really wants people to have the same name in game. Poor decision imo.

Ah, gotcha. Didn't even think about that, but it makes sense. It would be a real pain if you were in two different clans (or just used two different names) in separate games. I concede the point.
