TF2 review

Post by DeafOfficeWorker » Wed Sep 19, 2007 8:10 am

After the first night of playing of TF2, I must simply say that is the most fun I've had gaming in a very long time.

I saw some old familiar names last night. I tried every class except sniper. My favorite class was, of course, spy. I got some great screenshots. I did not want to go to bed this morning.

I'm trying to remember specific incidents which had me giggling or laughing out loud (there were many), but I'm afraid I got a little polluted in the course of the evening. :drink1: :drinking:

I remember rushing the enemy spawn with the pyro on granary (the map with the satellite dish?), but I played spy most of the evening.

Anyone have any good screenies or stories?

I think the game is awesome!!! I had fun last night with my first full night. I didnt get any good action shots, but I did take these to show off the eye candy
(be sure to look at em in full res)

These images dont even show the main improvement... all the new lighting/shading reacting in real time just blows me away.

I like Solly Demo and Engy best

There are a few things that need to be tweaked... like class limits and round time. That along with maybe turning off sudden death, Itd be perfect!

The one thing sudden death did was clear a few spots on the server. That was actually nice, but I don't care for sudden death either.

Ya, not a big fan of sudden death
or the long respawn timer!

I want insta-spawn like TFC lol/jk, I like the wave style reinforcements.

An other thing I like is the fact that everything is geared towards team play. Like, the fact that cap points are locked out so you cant sneak way ahead and cap. It makes everyone fight for the same cap point.

Its really hard to win with out medics... more team work

...doh! gotta get back to work!

We're looking for the commands that set limits and stuff, but they're not the same as before. And since this is a beta, there may well be more changes...

I kinda like sudden death, but it would be better after having more time to complete the objectives. It felt like, now that we know we cannot cap this point lets have a free for all killing spree and mow everyone down to win, hahaha

The team that moves together with a medic or two healing are just about unstoppable. Right before I quit playing last night (morning...whatever :D), everyone was starting to figure this out. It was a bloodbath!

Agree with the respawn timers, HATE THEM. lol

Its what I loved about TFC, no respawn timers.

oh this game is fun!! i didnt get a chance to pop on TV 1 or 4(as it was full the whole time i was on  ) but i did get to play all the maps and they are cool! i dont have the greatest of vid cards, but i still thought the graphics were stellar! i wouldn't mind seeing a few more CTF maps, but that may still happen in the coming weeks. i also think the respawn timers are a little long, 5-10 secs would be alright, but there were a several times it was in the high teens and that sucks! oh yeah, and scouts are pretty strong up close, pyro flame should be a bit longer, and spy cloak feature can single-handedly change the outcome of the game. also i love how each class has a different melee weapon!

thats my quick review...i'll try to get some screenies when playing today.

But this goes with DoW's comments - the timer HELPS people realize they have to mvoe together.

I like the timer - it is a necessity.
Otherwise it wouldn't be as enjoyable, people just running around solo - it takes a team to win in this game.

I agree... I can see why the timer is there.

I feel it encourages sticking with your team, working together and some strategy now. I think without it or too short it would bottleneck some of the maps.

Anything that encourages teamwork is good in my book.

Also, I think it was a good idea to remove the grenades. ( WHAT?!?!?!?) The spam would be unbearable, and might make the game almost unplayable on most of the maps. Lobbing explosives should be, and is, the demo man's job. I think one of the devs said that by removing the grenades, more emphasis was placed on the respective strengths/weaknesses of the classes (the importance of teamplay was increased). That makes a lot of sense to me now that I've played the game.

I agree to a point on the timers, but not 20 seconds. I can see a 5 second timer for defenders, but if your an upbeat scout running for caps, a timer is terrible IMO.

I think the wave spawning is great, just the timer is too long. Somewhere around the 12 second range would be good.

One thing I really dont like is all the little message windows telling me "You almost tied your record......." etc. Its annoying, along with the kill cam. I was looking for a way to turn all that stuff off. Anyone know how?

I like the fish-eye affect on the sniper's scope.

I agree wit DOW, nades would be too much spam.

I've never played tf but it is actually a fun game and team work is important which is what I like. As far as the message in the screen I don't like them either. The death cam is ok though. My $.02 more to come after I play it a while. :D
