Possible Halloween Server
It's that time of year, the time the screams resound from the battlefield and both red and blue set aside their differences (at least for a few minutes) to fight the evil ghosts rather than each other.
With the official Halloween event coming up, would there be interest in turning one of our not quite so used servers into a Halloween server (forced into holiday mode and running the previous event maps) for the time being? Perhaps TV3, our 24/7 beta server?

Re: Possible Halloween Server
With the upcoming Halloween patch at the end of the month, it would be nice to have a server running the koth_harvest map for the ghost/achievement event when its released. Until then a Halloween server will just be filled with cobwebs since nobody would likely play there.
I'd actually be more in favor of adding mannor to rotation for now, and having harvest replace it when the event is released. At least then, people would be around to play them!

Re: Possible Halloween Server
Ideally, I'd like it if we could do two servers, one dedicated to the new event map 24/7 (assuming there is one) and another one running the old ones in rotation. As I usually have to be overseas for Halloween every year, I still haven't done all the maps all that much before.
It might be heresy, but it might be nice to QP them (if we can do two).
They're always a madhouse of crazy anyway and QP will probably help keep both of them running full pretty well.

Can't have quickplay if we use reserve slots though from what I understand. With the server filling up fast from QP stragglers, server supporters such as myself would be understandably annoyed to not be able to join on the server I pay for on a whim.Plinko wrote:It might be heresy, but it might be nice to QP them (if we can do two).

This is hard to be cool and suave while being informative at the same time. Goddamn my coolness.
In my experience, common sense isn't too common.

Re: Possible Halloween Server
Valid concerns, but I can suggest two alternatives to consider - one is that it seems to me a lot of places break the rules already and if we create two servers for Halloween, then cancel them after the event - the worst case is that two servers we will never use again get blacklisted. Big deal.
The second would be - that if we play to the QP rules and add two servers without supporter slots, it's not as if TV2, 6, 7 and 8 would need to lose those slots so you have lost precisely nothing of what you're supporting.

Re: Possible Halloween Server
The Halloween rotation lingers too long on each map, Mann Manor in particular. Speeding up the map changes would help keep it full.

Alright, I shortened the limits on the maps. Thanks for the feedback.

It's a tough balance, because people tend to leave when the map changes. If it's too short, there isn't enough time to build the player base back up.Stevo wrote:Alright, I shortened the limits on the maps. Thanks for the feedback.
I also tend to think that, without quickplay, what is making people find the server is the desire to play a specific map, since quickplay currently only allows a choice of the 2013 Halloween map or all Halloween maps. If someone wants to play Mann Manor specifically, they have to use the server browser to find a server running that map.
Anyway, let's give the new times a try and see how it goes.

I also think a lot of random frequenters get spurned off by Koth_harvest on tv3. Not that its a bad map, but because there are no boss events which most users are looking for.
