you can make slot tokens for weapons, 1 slot token, 1 class token and 1 scrap metal if i'm not mistaken, they should be the easiest to make

3 Scrap Metal = 1 Reclaimed Metal

OR

4 Refined Metal + 1 Class Token = 1 Random Hat for a certain Class

81 primary/secondary/melee items for any hat.
OR
108 items and a class-token(4 class items) for any hat and any class-item for the class-token used.

In the chart, it doesn't specify any class-hat that was used with the token. Just any class-item(whichever class-token was used) with ANY hat. So you are getting ANY hat(not class-specific) and a random, class-specific weapon.

Example:
For the 3 refined metals(81 items) = you get Any Hat.
4 refined metals(108 items) and a class-token(4 Sniper Items) = you get Any Hat and Any Sniper Item

It does not specify in the Chart the Hat is also Any Sniper Hat. Just Any Hat. The Item though with be a Sniper Item because of the Sniper class-token being used with the 4 refined metals.

So my question is if it is said somewhere else about the update if they mean Any Hat as in A Random Hat. Or Any Hat you choose. So you can Choose from a list of all the Hats.

As for the one used with a class-token. Is it a Random Hat, and the class item be a Hat from that class or a misc item or is that just a possibility in the random pickup from doing that craft?
Because from right now, I don't see that as much use when you have to collect 108 items + 4 items to get a hat and another useless weapon when you could just get the hat with 81 items. You would in reality be using 4 items to just get 1. You would be losing in that situation. And using more weapons to get a hat you could of already got and waste more weapons that could of been saved for another hat.

P.S. I REALLY wish I didn't delete every duplicate I had and just kept a single item for everything. I would of had like 30 bonks and 10+ of everything else. Not to mention I had no room to keep any of it because it's still only two pages. And we couldn't craft them in before to make more room. UGH! Time machine would come in handy right about now.

So from what I've read, there is still no concrete, sure fire way to get the exact, specific hat you want. This is somewhat disappointing.

The 81 items formula nets you a random hat determined completely by chance. This gives you a single 1 in 30 shot of the hat you want.

The 108 items + class token formula nets you one of that particular class's 3-4 hats, also completely by chance. Of course, since the class token is limiting the selection to the hats belonging to it, this does effectively raise your chances to 1 in 3 shot. (1 in 4 for Scout, Engineer and Sniper, taking into account their hatless options.)

Is there no third, even more ridiculously costly formula that guarantee's ONE SPECIFIC hat? You mean even if I manage to get all those refined metal and the class token after god knows how many freaking hours, I'm STILL not GUARANTEED to get the particular hat I'm after?

What I dislike most about this crafting system, though, is that it's just ever so slightly too hard to get scrap metal. I've got a boat load of crap in my backpack that I literally cannot craft into anything at the moment because I don't have enough of the same item. Why's it gotta be 3 of the exact same item? Why can't it be any 3 primary/secondary/melee weapons of any class? I'm not saying I'd like to be able to throw, say, an Axtinguisher, a Kritzkrieg, and a Buff Banner together and get scrap metal. That's a melee and two secondary weapons. I'm saying I want to be able to throw together the two FaN's and a Natascha (Three primarys) I've got sitting in my backpack and get some scrap metal. It's kind of frustrating waiting for the drop system to give me the last FaN I need to produce another piece of scrap metal. I think fixing this alone would be perfect.

Oh well.

I'm not angry, just a little disappointed. I was very excited by the idea of crafting, but so far I feel the execution has been a bit haphazard and cumbersome. It is, however, a very new system, and I'm sure that later on down the line it will be built upon and updated. I mean, come on, it's Valve. I don't remember the last time they released something they didn't later make any changes to. Still, gotta respect and appreciate their ongoing commitment to a 2 year old game. <3

Well, since you need over a hundred, you'll have three of most things by the time you have 100+ primaries or secondaries saved up. . .

Are they still intending to put a trading system in place? That would probably also alleviate the restrictions on needing three of the same primary to create scrap metal.

I think you misunderstood. 4 refined metal and a class token gets you a hat for the specified class, and that's it.

It doesn't need to be 3 of the same item.
3 of the same slot.
Or 3 of the same class.
But if you're melting 3 class items, you might as well melt one more and get a class token.

Is there some other pressing use for your spare items?

Uh, I've tried...it kinda does need to be 3 of the same item.

You CAN do 3 of the same class, but it still MUST be a complete set. 1 primary + 1 secondary + 1 melee, for example Backburner + Flare Gun + Axtinguisher, otherwise it still won't work.

You cannot combine 2 FaN's and a Natascha for scrap metal. Which is my complaint. I have to sit around and wait for the drop system to randomly give me another FaN or 2 more Natascha's? Why must even the crafting system be left up to randomness in the end?
