You don't have to be shy with comments on the server (towards me). I'm not dedicated to TV1: I'm dedicated to TheVille and opposed to every other server on it. Given my map preferences, IV (now X) was the only server I could endure - and after months of enduring, certain customs have become terribly stale. A number of the core seeding group have similar views: we are not necessarily happy to have certain maps in the rotation, but we'll kill ourselves over this server if it gives us somewhere to play.

So we're working on improving TV1's present form into something workable rather than striving to enshrine it as the greatest server in the world. We wouldn't be opposed to radical changes to the server but I don't think that's our call. It's selfish enough tugging on the community to make our own mini-playground. Should the community call for it or the admins decide upon it, let TV1 change - I'll be here as long as it's TF2 and not dustbowl! Until then... onto week two!

According to Valve, the most popular map is Dustbowl, followed closely by 2Fort. Personally, I'm not a fan of 2Fort, but if we have a Dustbowl server, why not a 2Fort server? It's a major change, but a change is what TV1 needs.

If not 2Fort, maybe payload maps, an arena server, or something crazy like 24/7 mario kart 100% kritz instant respawn. Just somewhere to gimmick and have fun.

Just random ideas.

I just read the TF2 stats again, and it seems 2Fort is the most played map now. :(

I suppose I would prefer more intel maps. We have an over abundance of attack/defend and CP maps.

That is the truth KRG. If only we had a group of people like the Warpath group to play intel maps. They usually just turn into team deathmatch.

We've had payload and arena rotations before; neither of the servers lasted very long. There are too many 2fort servers to get an actual community built around it; we'd just be getting people who juggled between different servers. Craziness is more suited towards TVX.

I'm also against 24/7 badlands, despite my love for the map. It was great back in the day because we had a small group on the server who knew the map. These days we'd just be disappointed at how many stalemates there'd be and the general poor quality of play on the map.


Speedy:
This is where our sneaky rotation comes into play! Just to tempt people like you, we run gravel -> hydro -> badlands. While it does stink there are maps we don't like in the lineup, since we all have different map tastes, we tried to intersperse different map styles so you'd be encouraged to sit through a hated map to play a loved one. Perhaps the only insufferable part of the lineup for me is Dustbowl -> Goldrush back-to-back, but we needed goldrush or badwaters as a buffer map to prevent dustbowl people from rage quitting when it hit turbine. Curse our need to retain people!


KRG:
We run turbine, 2fort and well as ctf - that's 1/4th the rotation. They are all seperated with 4-map buffers between them, so about every fifth map is CTF. You'll see at least one on TV1 each night.

Actually it's 2 maps between them, bunched towards the center of the rotation... I was thinking of the two wells - we were trying to seperate them with 4 maps. Nevermind!

So far the best idea IMO is a intel map rotation. Not just valve maps either. Mach4 is a pretty decent one.

There was a CTF map rotation a while back but it never stayed full.

We have tried 24/7 Badlands, 24/7 Badwater, 24/7 Goldrush, PL only maps, CTF only maps....
None really took off.

TV1 seems to work best on a rotation.

I really like the rotation so far, I can only play 1-2 hours most of the time, so I never see the same map more than once unless I somehow hit both versions of Well.

That said, I'd be OK without 2fort. I wish there were some more good flag maps in the official map list. Mach4 is just too small in my opinion for 24 players (actually, I'd say the same for 2fort which is why I could leave it from the TV1 rotation).

In the long run I suspect dustbowl could be dropped if its only going to draw players that leave as soon as the map changes.
