How long are these halos going to be forced upon us? I didn't see a way to turn it off.

Just don't put it on? You should also be able to delete it like any other item if you want.

Until people decide to stop wearing them. You can try asking nicely?

By default, the halo was put on all my classes. But if you go into the character setup and choose a class the head box is blank, not showing a halo. Only after clicking on the head box do I see it is selected and have to select no special headgear. It is like this for all classes.

Busy work. I can see and kill halo people easier, I don't want the halo, or any flamboyant hats that might make it easier for enemies to target me. I can't see my own hat. I'd rather put my halo over the rockets coming out of my tube, that way you'd see how friggin great they are.

People who connect to achievement_idle servers were doing exactly the same thing in my mind and have no high ground to stand on.
Either idling was evil or it wasn't - saying one method was good and another evil is hypocritical.
they can police one easier than the other...its not that they say one is right and the other isnt...its just practicality in policing and the hope of deterrent in the harder one.

Its done in enforcement all the time...get the easiest conviction to get some people off the street, then that will scare SOME of the others to stop doing what they are doing, and it gives them a little more time to find a counter for the harder ones. Its not a case of you can do this but not the other...just logistics
It's not just that. It is also that no matter how similar the results were, the means to those ends were very different. That was what I was trying to point out last Friday; Valve didn't come down on people for idling, they came down on people for using a third party utility to connect to access the item management system.

Same here - I had to manually equip the halo for each class I want it on (all but spy and sniper). I'll take it off and replace it with other hats as I get them, or in the event I'm trying to be a couple pixels extra sneaky.

Soldier and Engineer just don't look right without proper helmets/hats.

All classes look much worse with hats of any kind than with their default heads.

I still want devil horns to go with my halo. That would be funny.

Only if they have a glowing particle effect and resemble the horns of the Ankole-Watusi.
