I look for this server 2 to 4 times a night hoping there are some people on here. I half come for the customs but the main reason I go to this server is that when it has people on it at night, it's the people who play as a team adn know what they are doing. It makes the games fun regardless of win or lose.

I think the only problem with the server is that it has toooo many customs. If stocks are needed to keep it populated then rotate one stock one custom. Please no 30 minute CTF Well though :P make it like 20 minutes or "win three rounds" with each flag capture being one round.

I really miss having the customs on Ville II. My ping is terrible to IV and it seems like people don't go there much any more. :cry:

Yeah using a set rotation where you mix in say gravelpit, Badlands and dustbowl with a rotation of 3-4 custom maps alternating could be an idea. But I already made my post related to the custom map server and got the vote so maybe I will talk to dog about it :)

I like the idea of cutting down the rotation to a handful of the most popular maps + enough stocks to keep the server loaded. Right now the list is so long who knows what will come up and when? I can't go on there and having any hope of playing any particular map. Pick 5, put them on there for a month then vote again, I'm with OddJob :)

I think somebody (Dog?) already said that the others can stay on there but out of the rotation, special requests can always be serviced from that pool no?

Yeah I talked to dog and he referred me to SilverOne so I just have to wait til he adds me to his friends list to hopefully work something out. I hope to keep the map time limits at 30 minutes across the board and hopefully put some sort of cap limits in or mercy rules in to keep maps moving.

Been reading this post develop over the last few days and there is much I have to say but don't have too much time at the moment. I usually post the changes I make and I apologize for that.

Anyway... let me make a few things clear.


I keep tweaking the server in different ways every couple weeks to see if things change since the population has dropped about a month ago. Dog and I have been discussing ways to keep players on the server. He made some great suggestion that I applied over this week. Thing is not many of you have been playing there to even notice since the server has been... very... quiet. :(


The list Dog posted were all the maps that are on the server (in the maps folder) , NOT all the maps available to the players in vote. That list is as follows...

Those are the maps that can show up in the vote.

We made a change on tuesday where the 4th map option in the voting will be a popular custom. While option 1-3 will be random from the pool above. The 4th option will pull from the mapcycle where there are only 3 maps (mach4, castle3, and warpath) 3 very popular customs. This way those will show up more, be played more, and keep people on the server. I even had dustbowl in that list for a short time earlier in the week. I know.. its not there atm. Im thinking about adding a new map to the 4th option. Where 3 maps will be popular, 1 will be a new to the ville map. If things get better again.

We also made a change to the voting where a higher percent of players have to vote on a map for it to change. Ill paste what Dog said to me since he explained it better than I can...

The reason for this is, a small number of voters are voting for X map and 5 are needed. The rest either missed the vote or are too lazy. X map comes up and the rest don't want to wait or don't like the vote and leave the server.

So... I Think it was adjusted to 7-8 to force a change or it will default to the mapcycle (popular) map.


I have been thinking about going away from the voting and go with a few map custom rotation. Just haven't though of a way to do it. I also been visiting other custom servers to see what is making them tick. Only the 24 player ones though.

So its not lack of effort guys :) We been trying hard to keep this server custom. I want it to stay custom. But I also dont want it empty. It really, really, really.. bothers us.




Anyway.. keep those suggestions coming.. and get on tv4. :)

Yeah I just had that poll in this forum about the popular ville maps. You can certainly take a look at it to pull off the more popular maps. Desertfortress, Toyfort, Warpath, Castle3, Mach4, Corporation, Turbine, wolf, and Labor seemed like some more of the popular ones. I just stopped playing and we did keep the server more full and the more popular voting options helped. Maps like lazytown can be fun if servers are well balanced but tend to clear it out more than anything. Those are the maps I would suggest most with Hallofdeath, rock2, science, and a few of those others to be the more average ones for the server.

I'm not a big fan of Mach4 myself, but I'll play it. Lazytown needs an update. With no moving spawn and slow cap speed on the final point is it nearly impossible for either team to win if it's balanced.

Hall of death is fun for a few minutes. Science looks way cool, but I've only gotten to play it with like 5-6 people 1 time.

Most of those maps I've never even had the chance to try. It's always set on a non-custom map when I log in.

Roswell is a really nice map it seems, although it also seems like not a lot have had the chance to play it. We had lots of fun last night on it. If more people could be exposed to it I'm sure it would become a popular one.

I have never doubted TheVilles admins dedication :) You guys always seem readily available to help and always respond fast whenever I have had a concern :)

Carpo and Broma are both there I think.

I know I played Carpo, that's the one we were talking about last night with the "two train tracks" that we didn't like :P It's way too small and everyone just goes pyro because of the map.
