The point loss system favored people whos main class is engineer. Remember how Thegerman was always on top?
You get points for building dispensers, guns, and teleporters. Then you get points for kills with the sentry gun, and any sapper you destroy, and you're relitevely safe, unless you decide to go and shotgun people.
Then you got classes like the pyro and spy that were at the very bottom of the advantage chart, cause you'd have to be up close to do anything. Spys were the reason the melee multiplier was changed from 3 to 2, cause they were losing to many points.

Once someone got over the required kills, they were free to rip apart anyone's points. Kinda fustrating to lose 100 points to get a control point just to get 2 for capturing it.

Point systems fine right now, have less point whoring, and the people who do point whore don't stay back at the fear of losing points.

Also I think I remember dog saying something along of the lines of the 25 point max lost CAN NOT be changed.

Oh we can UP the 25 point thing.
We could set it so there is no limit!

This would mean that someone low down can get 250 pts for killing a high ranked person

Hey i dont know if this is possible but could we change the multiplier of a weopen the more that person uses it.

Ex.Novx, he uses the minigun all the time is it possible to make the multiplyer go lower for the minigun after hes made such and such kills

This would force players to play more than just engy or sniper

P.S.: not taking anything away from Novix he is a great player

Ya know, dog, i think just as a joke, change the point loss to full points loss the last day before you reset... i really am curious as to how many points i can loose in a day :D I think it would be a GREAT april fools joke. But remember, dont reset the stats on the 31, well the night of it yeah, but the day of, change it to full points loss

I wanna see  i lost 800 points form Navx :D ill have to try and play where he is that day. It would be funny. I think more so, i wanna see the top like 250 people or more or something have a -1k + points for the day... :D
NO!!! its not a joke noe more... you all know whats gunna happen. But wait, we can have contests to see who looses the most points

I understand that people do enjoy the stats, I do too, but the main focus of being in a game of TF2 is to play TF2. I once played a game of Warpath where we'd been pushed back to the last cap, and we were fighting like crazy to take back the second. I respawn and see a Demoman sitting back by spawn practicing his sticky jumps. I dont think anything of it, go back out, die, respawn and he's still doing it. So I say "Demoman, what are you doing back here when we're trying to push back?", and he says something along the lines of "If I go out there and die I'll lose too many points so I'm not going to risk it."

That's the kind of thinking that gets under my skin. Yeah, the stats are long-lasting, but so what? Stats are supposed to be a measure of skill, right now they are a measure of play time. And yes, I am aware that sometimes you lose 25 points to someone who just crossed his regular points mark. Walk it off, Nancy. Instead of crying over your lost points, go earn them back!

Yeesh. Sometimes I think I'd prefer the stats if they tracked everything for those interested, but didn't rank people.

I think if there was no point loss, but it could rank players by points per hour, it might satisfy the majority of players. I think I have said that I view character death as just another tool, and since there is no penalty for dying, I have no problem with intercepting a crit rocket or going nose to nose with a heavy if it means our sentries will stay up. I still think "Look at the silly medic" is one of my favorite tactics.

How does one judge what real skill is if there's nothing to compare it too? I judge my own skill based on my overall ranking and then see the playtimes of those ahead and behind me. It's not scientific (and I sure wish there was a points per hour type tracker) but it gets the job done. I dont see being able to judge my greatness as easily if I didn't have a basis of comparison.

Oh, and for the reset I believe we should continue to go with the no point loss for deaths type deal. This atleast keeps playings from cowering in the shadows as you pointed out Carpe. Either that, or drop the point loss penalty to like 10 or 15 max.

I understand people enjoy the stats, as do I, but I just think people get too caught up in them sometimes. They're fun to look at and see how you're doing, but I draw the line when preserving your stats get priority over helping your team by playing the game.

I find that the people I enjoy playing with ( the ones who are part of this community ), don't put their personal points over helping your team win. They do whatever they can to help the team and not worry about points.

People who are in it all for the stats are not a part of this community, they are just anonymous players who help fill the server and to be honest, I could care less about them.

I enjoy this community because of the regulars around here and servers that are well admined.

With as many servers as TheVille has to offer, if you find yourself in a game where the majority of the players are more interested in their stats, then jump to a different server ... that's what I do.
