No map should pop up every vote.

IMHO Map rotation should be kept to a max of 10 to 12, so that people aren't constantly playing on maps they never heard of. People like new maps, but they also like the chance to get to know the maps as well. If you have 30 maps in rotation at a 30 minutes a piece with a random chooser selecting 5 maps for vote, you can go a week between playing the same map twice.

I posted this a long time ago but I felt like the rotation should be looked at every month and then have new maps added or remove unpopular maps. This is why I said a dedicated customs op inc harge of maps and rotation would be wonderful.

Maybe once a month or every two weeks we gather up all the new maps we want to try and have a playtest night and then we can choose the new maps to add to the rotation (and which to remove).

There's a bit of, "I no longer play there because it's not serious enough, too much fun going on." Then, we have, "we have fun there because no one else is playing there."

Right now, a majorty of regs play on TVX to put it to use rather than see it sit empty. And they do it as is, without asking, "change this or change that". Sometimes, it turns into serious play, sometimes not, the majority dictates the flow. Folks who join once it's full or almost full should be happy the job has been done for you and just go with the flow, silly or not. Majority always dictates the flow, a wonderful trait of TheVille servers.

If a team of "serious" regs want to form up a majority and start playing on TVX "again" to dictate a more serious flow, then do it or quit flappin your yap.

Unrelated to all that. .

 Precisely why I love that server.

Well, first and foremost, I lag horribly on TVX. I love the crowd and I love the maps, but I tried to play yesterday and I had to quit because I was averaging less than 10 FPS. Steadily.

That said, I love the custom server. Well, I love what it used to be. Right now there are more bad maps than good in rotation. But you can't please everyone. I hate cranetop and corporation, and like castle and lazytown. Anyone who knows me on the customs knows I love Mach4. Either Avanti is good. Fallout is good. Freight is good. Desert Fortress is good. Observatory is meh. Hoodoo is alright.

and I love the wackiness. Don't get me wrong, I'm a fan of a good, solid game on a custom map, but the fact is, the most people we know are on there and it's nice to have fun with them. I like alltalk. I like explosions and rockets. I like evil vision and drugs. They're hilarious. I know I'm the minority of that veiw but I'm putting in my $.02

Lets just move the server back to TV4 to the settings it was at a few months ago and call it good. :D

If the majority dictates the flow, TVX should be reverted immediately. The server has died. It used to be filled nightly with a large crowd. Now it never fills. It seems that the majority much preferred the old style; they actually played back then.

The reason I do not return to TVX and try to change things I've stated already: it's easier to convert a dead server (TV1) into something enjoyable than put up with a horrific server (TVX) and try to make it bearable. I tried playing on TVX for a while, tried to make it work for me. What I got was admins throwing up all-talk votes at an unbearable pace and people using every ! command in existence. I can't exactly dictate the flow against that; the silliness is going to win out.

Thus this post exists: state our stance and hope our stance gets considered so the excess silliness can stop being possible on TVX. Regular players cannot stop server commands in-game. Something like this might be able to.

I'm all for converting back to TV4 for the better FPS. Lag is my only issue with the server.

I guess I am just missing these crazy nights people are speaking of with rampant all talk votes, low grav and the like. It must be quite horrible to garner such an outcry. I assumed it was people over reacting but it's obviously a serious problem I am not familiar with. I've enjoyed some great competitive games on TVX lately, (largely on Avanti) I do not see such rampant shenanigans as described here.

Regular players won't have any more control on TV4 though. And you can bet that the crowd that has taken over the otherwise dead TVX, will follow it to a less laggier locale.

In any case, if I'm on during these fore mentioned "shenanigans" and I hear the majority asking it to stop, I'll certainly get things moving the other direction.

I still think TV10 is fine. We had a good group of people on last night playing Avanti with alltalk on. The server ended up crashing when the map changed, but still a good time. I had fun, and that's all I ask for at the end of the day.

It might have calmed down by now. I haven't played on it since I started working on TV1. Back then you couldn't play a round without all-talk (a big negative for me) and most of the players running around with all the new server commands. I think that was when !rocketme and similar were first released; might have just been a horrific week that ruined the server for me.

If TVX isn't used as the test server for new supporter or otherwise commands and is treated as a server of the same caliber as TV7 or TV8, I'd try joining it again. It doesn't need drastic changes, I'd just like it to be treated the same as the other servers - just with custom maps.

what TVx needs is Ian Suffix's platform yea that's it

Cash works I like that map I like to play with all talk on I also like to play with it off too [/quote]
Nice to hear a vote of confidence in my admittedly "gimmicky" map. I did intend it for serious play!

I was there, and I heartily agree with you, sir.

If it's laying there dead and some folks hop on to have fun, I say more power to them. I'd rather see fun stuff than an empty server. If someone joins a "fun" game in progess, they should go with the flow or find another Ville server.

On that same hand, if it's full and flowing like a standard Ville server, then the shenanigans should not be present. There is no reason to hinder a good game with silliness. That can become llama'ish.

Focus should be largely on filling the server at first, regardless of flow. Silliness is welcome but once 8 or more folks join, it should switch to more serious play and lately it does when I'm on. Unless everyone says, "no let's keep having fun."

This place has always had random silly nights, some of my best memories are from random fun nights. They will always be here from time to time but every game should not deteriorate into one.

What I love about the less popular servers is the villun ratio. It's almost like being on a private server. :D

BTW - this thread is what I like about the ville: we can have a good, healthy public debate about something like this, without resorting to name calling.

Well - except gator. But we all make fun of gator.
