Fistful of Frags

It's a western-themed shooter in the source engine. It's been out as a Half Life 2 mod for awhile, but was released recently as a standalone game. Even though it isn't finished yet, this game is a lot of fun already. It also has a fairly large community with lot dedicated servers to play on. The game is completely free, so I suggest giving it a shot even if you're on the fence about it.

This game reminds me of Lead and Gold: Gangs of the Wild West, except that was a third-person shooter; however, the basic premise is really similar to this one.

So this game came out a very long time ago, about the same time tf2 showed up. I think Lead and Gold and couple other western types games showed up after this one hit the mod scene first. The author has been tinkering with it for all these years and finally pushed it to a standalone to make it easier to install. I played some a couple days ago and it is still as fun as I remember. It really is worthy of a ville night event.

Played about 5 hours of the game tonight. Some random thoughts.

It's a fun, little free shooter. Only four maps currently, deathmatch or team deathmatch modes. I found the gun mechanics to be refreshing. There are different starting guns to choose from along with some secondary stuff/perks. Have to really make shots count as the reload time is quite long. Rate of fire is somewhat slow. If you have only one pistol equipped you can hold down the right mouse button to fan the pistol. Letting you fire faster but at the cost of accuracy.

Every map has three different colored weapon chests. Blue, Red, and Gold. Each chest has a small selection of special weapons that you can pick from inside. Shotguns, better pistols, rifles etc. Health is recovered by drinking from whiskey bottles that you find in various spots on the map. Drink to much, to fast and you become drunk and your aim/vision become clouded for a few seconds. The game also has a bow and arrow for any of you that enjoy using the huntsman in TF2. The arrow has quite a drop to it so I wasn't that great with aiming it.

I want to say the game plays better with 5-6 people on each side. A lot of the servers fit 20. So it does feel a bit crowded at those levels. A lot more people rushing around kicking, hatchet fighting. Some of that might just be due to the high influx of new players. I think it'll be a less advantageous tactic as people learn to aim a bit better.

I'd say download it. It's free. Hopefully they update it a bit in the coming months. I think it's a game that would play well with a group of villiuns. Maybe a fun night, weekly thing or even a nightly whenever get together.

i had a great time with the game......it has a goldeneye feel to it, but slower rate of fire weapons and it's a western.
