Luminaria

This week was the due date for all DigiPen student game teams who wanted their games to be presented in the Spring 2012 Student Showcase and considered for awards within the school. My team and I spent this week working until midnight and later to get our game finished by the turn-in deadline Friday morning at 3:00 AM, and after nearly dying, we made it. :mrgreen:

Our game is Luminaria, a light-manipulation puzzle game in which the player uses mirrors, prisms, and more to direct a focused beam of light from a start point to an end point. At some point the game should be up on in the DP game gallery, at which time I'll be able to share a link to it here, and you all can witness the greatest thing to come out of DigiPen since Tag: the Power of Paint! (Note: Luminaria is not actually considered to be "the greatest thing to come out of DigiPen since Tag: the Power of Paint.")

The music you hear is mine! :D That's the tune that plays in-game, and there are a few surprises when you actually hear it during gameplay...

If you want to see our actual presentation, check out this recording of all the freshman presentations. Our segment begins at about 28:35 in. You can see me standing awkwardly at the left edge of the screen a little before the camera zooms in to show the video I posted above. :P

That looks great, its simple but it looks like it can get way more complex. I would love to give it a try if you ever make it available.

I've just finally received my first update regarding our game's public availability in a long time. It turns out it was deemed good enough to show at the DigiPen booth at PAX this year! :D We're going to do some bug-fixing and polishing over the summer and possibly even finish up a couple of game mechanics we ran out of time for during the semester. If all goes well and we get things ready in time, anyone going to PAX here in Seattle at the end of August should come check out the DP booth and give it a shot! Depending on the day, my teammates and/or I might even be there manning the DP booth, answering questions, etc.

Regarding availability for download: I'm able to give it to people as long as it's non-commercial and "not downloaded from your own site," which is vague enough that I don't think I can distribute the EXE over the internet independently of the school. Our instructor (who is also the head of the game design department) tells me that our game should be up in the DP student game gallery "soon." So keep watching - it might not be long before y'all can finally play it! :)

This looks great! The concept is very interesting and I like the graphic design. The music is very nice too. I would love to give it a shot!
