From the FAQ...
-Classic Age of Empires Gameplay: Experience the familiar gameplay that made the franchise successful, with an updated art style and uplifting tone. Revisit the classic game elements of empire creation and resource management in a vibrant historical setting.
-New Social Experiences: Discover new social experiences within the game, including live chat, gifting and trading of content, and cooperative multiplayer quests.
-A Constantly Growing Online Empire: Dive into a continually evolving online world where new content, civilizations, and quests are introduced.
-Games for Windows – LIVE Integration.
Can't wait...I love the AoE series even if I do suck at it. I feel the game would have to have some new and unique features to be able to compete with SC2 and other RTS games. Hopefully I can get in the beta.
Also, 0 A.D., a free RTS game has recently released its Alpha test version.

I've always liked Age of Empires, even if, like Tungsten, I suck at it.

Apparently a lot of people are whining because of the graphics...and saying the game won't be anything like AoE.

Here is a post from someone who's actually played it.
To sum it up: the core gameplay is the same; it is Age, it is mission-based, and it is great fun. Nothing was removed, but some persistence added AROUND (NOT IN PLACE) of the core gameplay. I hope that this clears up sme of the confusion and anger, feel free to refer others to this thread.
And
here's a gameplay video. It seems to play more like AoM than AoC, which disappoints me.

Age of Mythology, a sequel/spinoff game where you are mythic races, not historic ones
I think AoC is referring to Age of Empires 2: The Conquerors. That is the one my friends and I play.
SCREW HOUSES, HUNS FTW!!!!

Huns were for cowards. REAL men played Goths. Who needs walls made of wood or stone when you can have a wall made of huscarl?
