Re: Pokémon X and Y
If fighting types are still strong like they are in the current meta then Absol will have a lot of checks to deal with. Seems like so far most of the Mega evolutions are going to Pokemon that need help or ones that are already stupid powerful.

Just a small update on new stuff:
Apparently you can now jump up ledges while riding Pokémon like Skiddo and Gogoat.
And revealed abilities from the demo stuff they had going on at events:
- Helioptile has Dry Skin
- Litleo has Unnerve
- Sylveon has Cute Charm

"So what have you been up to, man? Haven't seen you in so long!"
"Ah, you know how it is. Doin' a lot of side projects, some consulting, maybe a little freelance... Those are words that people say when they haven't actually been doing anything, right?"

Re: Pokémon X and Y
I got some hands-on time with the current X/Y demo today at PAX. Here's what I saw, for anyone who hasn't also seen/tried the demo:
- Mega Evolution takes place during battle as part of the step in which you select an attack. It does not take the place of an attack, but rather occurs before the attack is executed. I'm not 100% sure how long it lasts, but in the PAX demo it lasted at least for the duration of the battle. I'm guessing it does not last beyond the end of the battle (the demo ends immediately after the forced battle in which Mega Evolution is demonstrated, so I don't know if it continues to have an effect post-battle).
- 'Mons have full animations for emerging from a Pokeball, idling, attacking, taking damage, and fainting, plus likely for other things that I didn't see. Trainers will animate in their battle intros, and will react appropriately at the end of the battle depending on whether they win or lose. The player character is also shown reacting to their victory/defeat.
- Battles are best played with the 3D slider turned off, as the framerate plummets when 3D is enabled during the battle scene. It really doesn't add much to have it enabled anyway - there's nothing which makes noticeable use of the depth during battles. Heck, even moving around in the world isn't enhanced much by the 3D.
- Transitions to and from battles are now MUCH quicker - the screen only flashes once when entering a random encounter, and battles begin without the big fancy intro graphics from previous games. That might be just for the demo in order to save time so more players in a row can try it, but I hope it's in the full game too - it was nice not to have to spend several seconds watching the screen flash at the beginning of a battle.
- Movement in the world in the demo seemed like my character was on roller skates, at least based on the character animations. Not sure if this will be the default for the release version. I couldn't find the button to slow down (moving quickly is the default now).
- Gogoat could be ridden in the demo by finding it in the world and walking up to it and pressing A, and dismounted by pressing Y. It functions much like the bicycle. It cannot climb stairs, which was used to limit the player's use of it in the demo.
- Text boxes can hold much more text, and the game makes full use of that fact to put far more letters into each box. It's not a bad thing - in fact, I rather like it, as the game's dialog feels more natural now than before when it had to be super-short in order to fit everything into the text boxes in as few panes as possible.

Re: Pokémon X and Y
New Nintendo Direct reveals stuff:
Venusaur, Charizard and Blastoise have Mega-Evolutions, and you get them in their base form from Professor Sycamore.
Mega Venusaur has Thick Fat as its ability
Mega Blastoise gets a new ability called "Mega Launcher", which "boosts its moves"
Mega Charizard gets Drought for some reason, which means it will finally have some sort of use. So we won't be able to tell who the ten-year-olds are when people start actually using the thing.
But on a somewhat lighter note, two 3DS apps called Poké Bank and Poké Transporter were revealed. Bank lets you hold up to 3000 (100 boxes) Pokémon over the internet. Poké Transporter lets you transfer Pokémon from Black/White/Black 2/White 2 as well as between X and Y copies (via the Poké Bank app). In addition, hacked Pokémon are prevented from being uploaded and transferred in this way.
However, the apps have a cost per year for usage. It's 500 Yen a year in Japan, no word on how much it'll cost in other regions.

Re: Pokémon X and Y
Correction from my last post: Mega Blastoise's Mega Launcher ability boosts the power of "Pulse" moves like Dark Pulse and Water Pulse. Of which, Blastoise only learns Water Pulse.
Anyway, New CoroCoro news via Serebii:
- Mewtwo has a second Mega Evolution, which is Psychic/Fighting and has the ability Steadfast. This one is Mega Mewtwo X, while the previously revealed one is Mega Mewtwo Y.
- Garchomp has a Mega Evolution, its ability is Sand Force.
- At least one of the evolutions of the starters are mono-typed Grass/Fire/Water. No word on whether it's the first evolution or final form.
- Fossil 1: "Chigorasu", Rock/Dragon. Has the ability "Hard Jaw" that boosts the power of biting moves.
- Fossil 2: "Amarusu", Rock/Ice. Has the ability "Freeze Skin" that converts Normal-type attacks used by the bearer into Ice-type attacks. Also increases the damage of converted moves.
- "Torimian", Normal. Has the ability "Fur Coat" that reduces damage taken from attacks that make contact. You can change its appearance by giving it haircuts and stuff.
- "Nyaonikusu", Psychic. Has gender differences, and learns different attacks based on its gender. The male learns Miracle Eye, female learns Extrasensory. Both have the abilities Keen Eye or Infiltrator.
- You can change your character's appearance via a Boutique and Salon with an actress NPC.
- Team Flare has five head scientists.
Type Chart Shenanigans:
Fairy is Super-Effective against: Dark, Dragon, Fighting
Fairy is Not Very Effective against: Fire, Poison, Steel
Fairy is weak to: Poison, Steel
Fairy is strong against: Fighting, Bug, Dark
Fairy is immune to: Dragon
Steel is no longer resistant to Dark or Ghost

Re: Pokémon X and Y
It's hard to believe this game is just about 4 weeks away. Have they revealed the version exclusive Pokemon yet?
As I still haven't decided upon X or Y.

Did they really need to make Garchomp even more overpowered?

As far as I know, the only version exclusives revealed so far are Clauncher (X)/Skrelp (Y), Swirlix (X)/Spritzee (Y), and Xerneas (X)/Yveltal (Y), plus Mega Mewtwo's forms.Bronze Fox wrote:It's hard to believe this game is just about 4 weeks away. No love for ice types on that chart? Seriously, game freak? Steel still doesn't need to be on there even with the minimal nerf.
And Garchomp totally needed a mega form. Sarcasm!

Re: Pokémon X and Y
English stuff:
"Chigorasu" --> Tyrunt
"Amarusu" --> Amaura
"Torimian" --> Furfrou
"Nyaonikusu" --> Meowstic
Chespin's evolution is named Quilladin
Fennekin's evolution is named Braixen
Froakie's evolution is named Frogadier
"Freeze Skin" --> Refrigerate
"Hard Jaw" --> Strong Jaw
"Fur Coat" --> Fur Coat
The actress who helps you with character customization is named Diantha
Team Flare's top Scientists are color-coded for your convenience. They also have names:
- Celosia (Purple)
- Aliana (Orange)
- Bryony (Green)
- Mable (Blue)
- Xerosic (Red)
And aside from Xerosic, they're all female.
Other Stuff:
- The Fur Coat ability actually halves the damage from all physical attacks, not just contact moves.
- The Refrigerate ability's bonus damage from converted moves presumably is STAB, not an ability-granted bonus.
- Mega Garchomp's Attack and Special Attack are increased, but its Speed is reduced
- IGN revealed Litleo's evolution: Pyroar. It is Fire/Normal, has the abilities Unnerve and Rivalry, and has gender differences. It also learns Echoed Voice.
- Electric-types are now immune to Paralysis
- Ghost-types are now immune to trapping moves like Mean Look and Block
- Grass-types are now immune to Powder/Spore moves like Stun Spore and PoisonPowder

Re: Pokémon X and Y
Evolutions of the Fossils were revealed
Amaura becomes Aurorus, which knows a move called "Freeze Dry", an Ice-type move which is allegedly Super-Effective against Water-types
Tyrunt becomes Tyrantrum. Not much else is known about it.
Other News:
- It's been revealed that none of the Kalos/Gen 6 Pokémon will have Mega Evolutions. At least, not in X and Y.
- Your Pokémon will now gain experience points when you capture a wild Pokémon.

Re: Pokémon X and Y
Mechanics quirks translated from an interview with Junichi Masuda. Via Bulbagarden:
1. Pokémon gain experience even if you catch a Pokémon instead of KOing it. (As noted before)
2. Sky Battles, as noted before, are for Flying-types and those with the Levitate ability. In addition, some moves are disabled.
3. There has been an adjustment to inheritance when breeding Pokémon.
4. Ghost-types are also immune to being trapped by the Shadow Tag ability
5. The Experience Share item is being reverted to its Generation I form, the Experience All. Except now it's a hold item. The experience is not divided evenly. The Pokémon holding it gains 100% of the experience earned, while all others gain 50% of the experience earned.
6. When distributing new attacks and abilities, newer Pokémon are considered first.
7. The model style is different from the ones in the Stadium-type games (Stadium, Stadium 2, Colosseum, XD, Battle Revolution). Battles were made "cuter".
8. The way the Pokémon team decided to pick Pokémon to Mega Evolve is based on three points: Visuals, Popularity and Balance.
9. Mega Evolutions are supposed to boost those that get them to the levels of Legendary Pokémon, which is why you're only allowed one Mega Stone per battle.
10. You get to decide when your Pokémon Mega Evolves during battle.
