Re: Evolve: halloween Alpha weekend thread
I played a bit yesterday (thanks for the key, Uber!), and was pleased to find a group of testers that were polite and helpful, offering tips and advice. I played as the monster and got beaten down repeatedly, as I'm not familiar yet with all the ways the hunters can track and such.
My impression is that it needs a good deal of balancing still (arenas last waaaaay too long, harpoon traps are a bit overly powerful, etc) but it's a fun game and would be great for Ville groups, so long as the matchmaking system doesn't get in the way of setting up a game how you want it. For an alpha, pretty good stuff.
Worth a play!

I had a decent game as a monster where I reached Stage 3 and killed everyone. I always get the perk that increases feeding speed and then I just run away and build up strength. You should try to avoid confronting hunters until Stage 3 if possible. You can kill a bunch of things and then circle around and eat them when you feel the hunters are farther away. If you see another monster, run right past it and the hunters might get distracted by it. Investing points into the charge ability early on is also good for escaping certain situations.

The Ville Cup '12- [SOLTAN] Solis Tanquam

The Ville Cup '14- GCI| Guild of Calamitous Intent

Just never stop moving and make weird movements and jumps to make it more difficult to follow your tracks.

Re: Evolve: halloween Alpha weekend thread
Having played about 5 rounds, I'd hardly be an expert on monster advice (or any advice, for that matter), but jumping and climbing are super important. Your tracks can be followed by the trapper (you see them too, if you use your smell power), so leaping, climbing, and following waterways so you don't leave a path is very important.
As a low level, don't engage if at all possible. Run, feed, hide, and sneak around to avoid getting caught. If they catch up with you, flee. If they put up an arena around you, keep moving away, only fighting if you have one isolated and can beat them down. Climb and circle to burn time until the arena collapses and you can bug out. I love the charge ability both to cover ground when running away, and because it does massive damage as an attack and blasts people apart like bowling pins. I used it successfully a number of times to knock hunters off ledges and isolate individuals. Fire breath was fun to use in combo with other things... leaping while breathing flame, or charging a person in to a wall and then lighting them up, etc. Don't pick fights with big nasty animals early on either - they can tear you apart pretty badly, and the fight makes noise that can draw the hunters.

Some monster tips:
Always use sneak, you don't leave tracks. Feel free to run in rivers.
Avoid making noise: knocking down trees, leaping and such.
Feel free to circle back and hide in crevices and bushes. Often times the hunters will keep running by you.
Don't fight reavers. They take way too long and don't offer much food.
