Should I just give you a flat-out explanation?
In the Pokemon games you catch pokemon, thus the name. In the original games (Red and Blue released in 1998) the only way to catch Mew was through glitches/bugs. You could also use cheat devices like Gameshark or Game Genie.
At least, that's what I remember. I really don't think there was a legitimate way to get Mew. It's possible Mew was given out as a mystery gift.
The mystery gifts were events held at Toy's-R-Us and the like. You would go there with your Gameboy and connect with the event holder's Gameboy, and then they would send over an item or rare pokemon. Most of time you would get a special item which would let you find a pokemon, and that said pokemon could only be found this way.
So now, in the later games you can connect to the internet, and now you can get a Mew without any glitches/bugs.
Of course, I should throw in that this was all before my time, or at least, I was only five and didn't even know what a Gameboy was.

They're digital cards you get in the game with any mystery gifts you recieve from Nintendo or otherwise, and they just hold a little bit of information about the gift, such as what it was and the date you recieved it.Bronze Fox wrote:What's a wonder card?
They're pretty much pointless to keep, though apparently some Wonder Cards can actually be shared with people via wi-fi to enable them access to the gift event themselves if they do not have it yet, if it's unavailable in their region or something.
I already had 3 wonder cards (which is apparently the limit) in my game, from having previously recieved the Yellow Forest and Winner's Path Pokewalker courses, and an event Jirachi.

I would probably enjoy the Pokemon games a lot more if I could have Wi-Fi at my house.Flobee wrote:They're digital cards you get in the game with any mystery gifts you recieve from Nintendo or otherwise, and they just hold a little bit of information about the gift, such as what it was and the date you recieved it.Bronze Fox wrote:What's a wonder card?

I'm looking at you Haunter. You have 50 less hp than all my other Pokemon!!
Stop dieing in one hit! Why does every pokemon have a dark move?!

Gengar is pretty badass
I'm lucky I still have friends who play pokemon. They're the only reason I might buy Black and white because pokemon is a lot more fun when you have people to trade with.
Bronze fox you do realize all you need is a wireless connection right?

Really I heard you had to heal your pokemon 100 times and beat the elite four and then Professor Oak gives you a mew and a togepi.Tungsten wrote:Back in my day, Mew hid in a truck in the S.S. Anne.

Yep, same here! Even had friends send me a pokemon with Cut to my game so that the St. Anne never left port. I eventually went back with surf and strength and...Tungsten wrote:Back in my day, Mew hid in a truck in the S.S. Anne.
Nothing. What a pain in the butt.
Also, Wonder Cards? I have a theory: think of it as the reason why we don't have people getting 15-bazillion event pokemon. The wifi thinger checks your wonder cards when you connect to an event. If you already have the Wonder Card, you're not going to be able to download another one. Theoretically, however, if you delete a Wonder Card you would be able to download the pokemon again. This would, of course, lead people to download and delete immediately but you can't. And the card you deleted? Well, they're event pokemon. I can only really test this when an event comes around again for an event pokemon I already downloaded.

I got my Mew, being the poke-nerd that I am, i've got him twice, since I own both versions.
They'll look good alongside my four summer Jirachis
Man i've got problems.
You think your Haunter dies quickly, try leveling a Pikachu. Yeah, I did it, I cheated and used Thief on Red's to get my own Light Ball, but if the enemy survives my thunderbolts, you can bet the rat's gonna be in a box after the next move.

This is hard to be cool and suave while being informative at the same time. Goddamn my coolness.
In my experience, common sense isn't too common.

Haunters and Gengars are overrated. Get a good Tentacruel and watch as the enemy falls apart before you.Bronze Fox wrote:
