From what I gather it's possible to have low-player games, or you can fill the extra slots with bots.

It's pretty fun, it's like Mario Kart if Mario Kart were a platformer. I like it.

There can be any number of players and you can also fill the empty spots with bots if you want to, like Zork said. Played a few games with random people last night who would end up leaving after the first round so there would only be 3 people playing the rest of the game and then it would send us back to the lobby to find another after the game was done.

not so much a race as in final destination but a race like you are being chased by a bear. the map loops and the slowest will quickly die.

Usually. Given that the camera isn't always centered on one player it's entirely possible to see people outrun and lose if they take a strange route.
