Server connection

Hey Guys
I'm still trying to connect to the server,I've been through my system and all is the way I've had it setup from the beginning.It still tries 3 times and tells me"failed to connect to server"I'm wondering if there is something blocking me from your end?Can someone please check,I've not been able to connect as of the 3rd of May.

Do you have a firewall up? Check any virus detection software you are running as well, make sure that's not impeding your connection.

Have you tried connecting to other servers besides the Ville servers and is that the exact error msg you get or does it say more.

Most importantly, are you connecting to the right IP and port?

I can connect to any other server except TheVille.This happened once befor and it took along while before I could connect.Thats why I thought it could be on your end,something blocking the response from the server.

Theville lll,it's the only server I can't connect to?

Are you connecting through your favorites? If so try to refresh your server list, find the Ville III then reconnect that way.

Yes I have,I even went through just the steam menu and put the server adress in and the same thing happens.I can connect to DODS with no problem,but it still makes no sense that I can't connect to DOD.

I'm still trying and I still get"Failed to contact game server.I've even updated my Symantec and made sure my firewall had steam and Dod as exceptions ,still no luck it can't connect to the server for TheVille IIII can't figure this one out.I can connect to any other server except III.

Hm, isn't DOD the only one that uses the original half life executable? Don't all the other games use the HL2 engine?

I think that in this direction lies the answer. When you say other servers, can you connect with DOD to other servers?

Sounds like a firewall issue.
Try turning it off or by-passing it to see if it helps.

I even reinstalled HL2 no luck???

There is a file you can delete that might be causing the issue. I think it is called clientregistry.blob.

Let me check the notes I have on my home computer and get back to you..


EDIT -- OK - I checked my notes...and found the following:

If you continue to have problems finding any servers, please exit from Steam, and then delete the following files from your Steam\config directory.

C:\Program Files\Steam\config\serverbrowser.vdf
C:\Program Files\Steam\config\masterservers.vdf


Also, it never hurts to run the steam diag tool - instructions are HERE

Let me know if these two things don't solve your issue.
