I would go with setting a password on your wireless at the very least; I know there are ways around it, but the average guy that goes 'hey, free wireless!' isn't going to be able to crack even the simplest encryption/passwording...

I think some routers allow you to see who is connected, too, so you could monitor it that way.

Can you run a wired connection to your room?
msn.com has a speed test to check the connection buzzy.

I believe I have found the root of all this, and it goes to the tune of...
Gamedeath Error Message wrote: Buffer overflow in net
And all this time, Carpe, you said it sounded so incredibly familliar...

I have the exact same problem you had.

So the steam forums say the best way to fix that is to...

try updating the firmware of your router.

So I have the firmware update on my desktop. Now how do I apply it? Anyone? Forgot I have a good friend named Google. Hope this works!

Well, thus far, for the most part, the instability has gone away. I think I'll still have to move the router and modem up to the main floor from the basement, or get something called a "repeater" to amplify the signal, or ask someone too boost the signal, or whatever. The problem is mostly solved...

I configured two apple airport extremes as repeaters for my linksys. I get a pretty good amount of wireless coverage. Our house is small, though, one floor, 1500 square feets.

...*sigh*

And I just updated my MOBO's wifi adapter too... I KNOW the lag is occurring between Buster and the router, there's no doubt in my mind about that.
*muttergumble* I think I'll just go buy a new one on Thursday...

Is it too far to use a cat6 cable?

I just finished moving the router and modem up to the main floor, but it's still too long a distance to run any kind of cable.

Also, the signal is still getting randomly reset (see: another new development involving this slowly getting worse), and the strength hasn't gotten any stronger (still about 60%)

Gotta go to work now, though. Need to tackle this problem more later...

I had the same problem when I lived with my grandparent for a short while. The modem/wireless router was down stairs and on the other side of the house. It would drop the signal for no apparent reason. I always assumed it was bad signal cuz the meter would bounce between Bad and OK, never got good or excellent . I ended up moving out before I got a chance to solve it though. I was planning on getting a signal booster booster (or repeater). That's what it sounds like you need to me.

382 was probably a bit of an exaggeration - everyone's ping bumped up once in a while during that game. I know in that picture I'm sitting with a ping of 152 when I was sitting at around 80 for the rest of the spot.

The only possibility I can think of is that there *might* be someone leeching your signal, so make sure that it's encrypted to some degree. I know my sister was experiencing internet issues on her wireless, and they all got fixed once she locked it down.

Heh. Leave it to me to get these sorts of problems. And by that, I mean Buster is no longer able to connect to the house's wireless network. This message is being painstaklngly typed out on my PSP, so it would appear that the wifi network lS worklng properly.

So, anyone wanna take a guess at what's wrong with Buster and what I could possibly do to fix it?

New NIC? updated drivers for your NIC? Move Buster to a differnt location in your room so that your NIC has a better view of not the wall right behind your computer.

No, see, here's the thing. ASUS WIFI-AP Solo, my WIFI device, detects the network in the survey tab. The Windows Networking thing does not. I updated ASUS WIFI-AP Solo on monday.

Also, there's a white WIFi (dongle? I guess?) that's connected to the mobo on the side panel (the non-fancy one). I guess it's an antenna. You CAN see it (little white thing, bottom right).

Here's my layout if it helps.

EDIT: And that's as long as a PSP will permit me to post. Buster has decided to begin working again now, but I'd be foolish to think this won't happen again.
