Oculus Rift Pre-order Price

Post by Dog » Wed Jan 06, 2016 10:34 pm

Hell no.

At $599 (about $7 million Canadian), my wife would kill me.
I think I will just stick with my three screens and TrackIR.
Maybe some day.

Besides my nVidia GTX960 doesn't even run it. I need a 970 or better.

/r/oculus is burning down right now!

Anyone who buys this before the Vive comes out is a bit silly. Hell, even the touch controllers are delayed for a bit. I absolutely plan on getting one of those two and upgrading my PC to hit the required specs as long as there is solid games/experiences to go with it. The software side is going to be a huge part of if this generation succeeds or fails.

They did a nice Q&A on reddit earlier. The guy really saved himself and handled it professionally, but the bottom line is it isn't affordable yet. When they first did their PR, the ballparked $350, bringing a PC player's setup to $1500. Now we're looking at $600 for the rift, more for the touch but they're still saying PC players average less than $1500 for their setups. So that leaves less than $900 for keyboard, mouse, graphic card(s) and everything else. I don't understand how they're still calling it affordable if they're also saying the top average PC gamer can't afford it. Especially since the whole idea with going with facebook is that facebook is big enough to make VR happen. ie: how sony got bluray mainstream by putting it with the playstation and selling it at a loss.
