Classic Movies to Watch with your kids.
Started a bit of a tradition on Saturdays at my house in that I try and watch a "classic" movie each week with my kids. Daughter is 11 and and son is 15. (I'm 43) Trying to keep things made 1999 and earlier. They are somewhat typical short attention span types but as long as the story is engaging they seem to enjoy things fine. They both said they really liked Hoosiers and Searching for Bobby Fischer for instance.
Would love some suggestions.
To give you a sense of what I'm looking for here are some movies so far.
Searching for Bobby Fischer
Jaws
Field of Dreams
Original Star Wars Trilogy
Back to the Future Trilogy
Terminator 2 - Son only
Hoosiers
The Thing - Son only
The Matrix - Son only
Rocky 4
Aliens - Son only
The Iron Giant
Predator - Son only
The Fifth Element
I sense some Indiana Jones in our future so that's covered.

Re: Classic Movies to Watch with your kids.
Things that come to mind include E.T., Gremlins, The original Planet of the Apes, any and all of the Star Trek movies, If you like british humor I would suggest things like The Life of Brian, Quest for the Holy Grail, Live at the Hollywood Bowl, Clockwise (John Cleese is brilliant in that) A fish called Wanda.
How about old John Wayne Westerns and Clint Eastwood Westerns? Speaking of Westerns try the Magnificent Seven and follow that up with the Seven Samuari which was made in Japan in the 60s if I recall and its what the Magnificent Seven is based on. No English in it, only subtitles, but its a very good show to watch.
That makes me think of old Bruce Lee movies, Brandon Lee in The Crow, and somehow now I think of the first Rambo movie.
Good Luck.

Well flash seems to be having fun . I will throw in a few. Doctor Strangelove, The Good the Bad and the Ugly, and nearly every mel brooks movie (Spaceballs, Blazing Saddles, etc)

Re: Classic Movies to Watch with your kids.
Since they're already hitting the teens, I'm gonna assume they've seen most of Disney's animated classics. Here are some other older favorites of mine:
Beetlejuice (1988)
Mary Poppins (1964)
Labyrinth (1986)
Who Framed Roger Rabbit (1988)
Big (1988)
Some 80s movies that your son should enjoy that kept their uniqueness:
Beverly Hills Cop
Stand by Me
Mad Max (especially if he seen/saw the new one)
National Lampoon's Vacation
Full Metal Jacket
Flash seems to have the rest covered, but I'll add anything I think of later.

Re: Classic Movies to Watch with your kids.
Awesome suggestions! Thanks so much everyone. Have a bunch penciled in for the next few months now. How could I forget Ghostbusters!
We have the Disney type stuff covered and Boss, one of my favorite movies of all time is
Kids have watched that growing up too many times to count.
Several suggestions we have already watched (Big, Gremlins and a few others) but I've added at least a dozen movies so thanks again all.

Re: Classic Movies to Watch with your kids.
When I was growing up that was one of the only 2 or 3 movies we had, taped from the broadcast Wonderful World of Disney. Watched it over and over, and for some reason had the song stuck in my head all day at work the other day
