Hearthstone
Hearthstone
Blizzard finally decided to release hearthstone out into the gaming world as it enters open beta today. I'm rather stoked myself as I love ccg games and this one look to have all the charms of a blizzard game and 0 dollar entry cost. I don't know how bad the fees will be for cards and such, but the game itself looks to have lots o promise.
Anyone else plan on playing?

No it works with BattleNet so you can play with your friends or just chat with them like in Diablo, SC, or WoWPlas wrote:I watched some twitch channels for this game couple weeks ago. Is the multilayer random only?

Re: Hearthstone
I have been playing since the early part of the closed beta and it is fun. Though it can be very frustrating sometimes as they are still working on class balance, though it isn't as bad as it used to be. It is free, though you will run into the people who have spent a lot of money upgrading their deck with the very best of cards in the game. I haven't spent a dime and i have a nice set of cards for each class.
You can play single player against the computer for practice, but the real fun is playing someone else and doing the daily challenges i.e. win 5 games as a priest or warlock, play X number of level 5 cards. By doing the daily challenges you get coins. With the coins you can play in the Arena (for about 150 coins which isn't hard to get) or you can pay real money, but really the coins are easy to get with a little time. The Arena lumps everyone who is playing together and you choose one of three pre-selected classes from there you get to pick one of three cards and fill out your deck so you gotta choose wisely and hope you get combos. Each game is pretty quick i think the longest one i've played was 20 minutes maybe.
Overall i think it is pretty fun. You can invest as little or as much time as you want into it. I play it when i am waiting on the wife to get ready or i have just 10 minutes to kill before i have to do something. If you have any questions ask away.

Re: Hearthstone
How difficult is it to get cards without spending anything? I suppose that will have to be the baseline for it as a lot o people are probably wondering if it is 'pay to win' though the legendary cards aren't all game winning cards from what I've seen.
I know you get boosters to open to get random cards--though I'm not sure where you get them-- and that you can make cards via dust. How does this work and is it worth doing or just a bothersome mechanic?

Vi Deo let me take your questions piece by piece
--It is not very difficult to get the cards you need without spending cash. When you first start you will level up each class (or not) after so many levels they give you class specific cards. This last all the way up to level 15. Leveling up is not that hard.
--There are those who are in hearthstone beta who do have pay to win decks. They are difficult to beat but not impossible. Hearthstone is a mix of the right cards in your deck, the order in which those cards appear, and luck (more so luck)
--Legendary cards are not that great. Outside a few most suck. Like for instance Deathwing is awesome to have he has tons of health and tons of hit but it destroys your cards out and the cards in your deck. So like Deathwing most Legendary cards have a Good and Bad side that regular cards do not
--Yes you get boosters. Boosters are obtained one of three ways 1) you can play in the arena and the more games you win the better cards you will get in your booster but if you don't win any games in arena you will still get a booster pack for playing so no worries there or 2) you can get one booster pack for 100 coins or 3) pay for them with real money...2.99 for 2 packs, 9.99 for 7 packs, 19.99 for 15 packs and 49.99 for 40 packs.
--Dust is tricky and it is both bothersome and useful. I have a good collection of cards most of which i hardly use and some of them i have more than 2 of (you can only use 2 of each cards in a deck outside of arena). So when i have three of a murloc i generally disenchant that and get the dust...after awhile i do see myself getting the same cards over and over so i just turn those into dust. However, i am a bit paranoid when it comes to disenchanting some cards that i never use out of fear that one day Blizzard will buff those cards and i will be kicking myself. Though the dust mechanic is useful i don't find myself using as much as i should and have.
Hope that helps out

Have fun and don't get frustrated. People have been playing a long while and have good decks from just being around and you will too. So you will lose some early games but research good decks or just come up with something crazy and i guarantee you will start seeing some wins.

Re: Hearthstone
Find a class you like and try to build a deck that fits the way you play. I used to have a pretty good Warrior deck before the reset. I haven't played alot since then, but with the open beta starting today I got back into it.

Re: Hearthstone
Once you are starting to get comfortable on most of the classes give arena a shot. For only 50 extra coins you get a pack at the end plus you get to play a draft and give yourself a chance at some much better loot. I find it way more fun than playing against whatever the most popular deck is in constructed over and over again.

Re: Hearthstone
Bah! That's a good idea. I forgot I can get more gold and a deck (usually, I've seen people just get a common card<<) through arena. I just bought a couple of boosters with the gold I earned. I really am liking the shaman deck I made-- though-- I can see some things that would really put a hamper on it that luckily I have not seen yet as most people-- MOST (My first game was against a murloc deck T-T) were seemingly of similar rank as myself and didn't have the best of the best cards.prang wrote:Once you are starting to get comfortable on most of the classes give arena a shot. I had a blast though. I'm looking forward to playing more.
One final question: is arena drafting based on the cards you own or every card in the game?
