questions of mischeif
Well recently i've been wanting to get into places because it seems like it would be fun. I was wondering if you guys know anything about household items that you can use as lock picks. I'm not intending to do anything illegal, i just think its a cool skill to have, and it would be fun to screw around with people.

depends on what you want open....if its simple door knobe lock then a knife will do fine ......if its lock above the or below the door knobe then you will need two items thin yet very strong to lift each pin...cos locks mostly are based on a pin system.....how many pins is really random but my best guess is 8...note the grooves on a key they push the pin so you can turn the key....as for the skill it takes alot of time to get so even with what i have told you....its not going to be easy to open any locks....your better off just breaking the door lol

Re: questions of mischeif
Well, I have had to pick a few locks, or just cut them, because an employee leaves and had locked their desk, or we get a desk or filing cabinet without a key, etc.
Here is a great explanation on the subject... be sure to play the flash files.

I have found that there are very few locked doors, cabinets or drawers that cannot be opened by the careful application of a few rounds from a shotgun
Um, lockpicking as I understand it is a good profession, but if its a hobby and your ever stopped by the police and have lockpicking tools on your person without a valid reason....well lets just say that your going to be considered highly suspicious.

Re: questions of mischeif
a set of very small allen wrenches(file on a grinder , or by hand if you want to, so they are about the width of the key that fits) and a small flat screwdriver (to turn the locking mechanism) will do fine use the

Re: questions of mischeif
You can get a decent lockpick set built specifically for lockpicking for less than the upholstery tools Ricen posted.
I have done a little lockpicking in my time and my Uncle (in-law) and his brothers are locksmiths and have done quite a bit more. It really is an art. You have to "feel" the lock with the tensioner and the pick(s).
There are several sites that have some very good primers on lock-picking. Just Google the subject (or if you think Google is going to share your info with the government - for you paranoid types) then use an obscure search engine.
Have fun -
P.S. Lock picking is not for the impatient!!
