Sim City 5 leaked footage
So I guess someone in the beta breached NDA and released a video of the tutorial (11 minutes). I haven't had time to watch it, so I hope it's not a troll.

Re: Sim City 5 leaked footage
Thanks for the link. Looks much much too fleshed out to be a troll, imo. Also, looks too accurate to one unfortunate scenario for the game.
While the zoom levels and many of the city controls themselves are pretty cool and/or tempting, they appear to have turned it in to The Sims: Macro Edition. Having little speech bubbles you must respond to, and annoying sim-speaking gibberish jockies demanding attention for this or that, is a big step towards the casual kiddie-game genre, as opposed to the more serious, technical planning thing. Hopefully there's an option to shut those people up and just let players build. On an unrelated note, the residential zoning looks like it'll be as big a pain as it was in the Caesar games.
Maybe that's all a bit much to take away from a single, short, leaked beta video, but that actually reduced my desire to play it, rather than increased. Given my ongoing avoidance of anything EA, I guess that's a good thing.

I dunno, I'd like to think if it were real, EA would have had the video removed from you tube already.

Well, they announced a free beta for next weekend - maybe they're just leaving it since a ton of footage will be released in a week (Plus people can play it for an hour)

Re: Sim City 5 leaked footage
I loved Sim City 2, 3, and especially 4. This new one makes me so mad every time I think about it, I've more or less just stopped hoping it will be any good. At least with this strategy, I won't suffer from the inevitable let down, and there remains the slimmest chance that I could be pleasantly surprised.

After watching it is real, there were also many screenshots and articles popping up online at the same time mentioning the same experience.
I feel exactly this, how is it a city simulator when you only have about a square mile to build in, really, a sewage system in a town with 100 houses? blegh. I want a remake of sim city 2000.Alizée Fan wrote: The Sims: Macro Edition.
Re: Sim City 5 leaked footage
I gotta say I'm actually looking forward to this Sim City. For whatever reason I never enjoyed the games after I played it on the SNES way back when, but this one has piqued my interest.
I do agree that the 2km limit for a city is pretty daft, but it isn't enough to put me off. I quite like the prospect of interacting with neighbouring cities.
Unfortunately I'll be away for most of the beta...hoping I'll get some play in on Friday night if I get invited.
Either way I'll likely get the game - if anyone wants to set up a region, I'm in!

In my opinion, SimCity 3000 was the high point. I really doubt I'd pick up the new one, probably cuz I could find my old disk around here somewhere and have twice the fun

Always on DRM ruins another game.
Re: Sim City 5 leaked footage
I'll be reserving final judgement until I get to play it a bit more (played the tutorial again this morning before heading to work).
I knew that the cities had restricted sizes and that the DRM system would be there and, while I'm happy at neither, I don't expect them to negatively affect my experience of the game overall.
If anyone is interested, I'll set up a private Ville region this evening (any preference on East/West coast server?) for those who have bought it and want to play together.
PM me for my origin username.
