Jumping and Surfing!
So I've recently gotten into both jumping and surfing... and I'm really enjoying it. I've been sticking to beginner maps mostly, but even having only been at it for a short while I am noticeably better than I was when I started. Surfing is super relaxing, and I feel like even though I'm still not great at both it and trick jumping, I've seen noticeable improvement in my actual play. For instance, I can actually do quite a few rocket jumps consistently that I couldn't before, and my airstrafing is much improved.
Any other Villuns enjoy either of these game modes?

Re: Jumping and Surfing!
As a resident of Southern California I love surfing.
Jumping has never been good for me, even with all the volleyball I played.
Fano tried to help me be better at rocket jumping on a jump map and we quickly found that a trackpad is not ideal for jumping. I still don't play much soldier or demo except on maps where rocket jumps aren't expected.

Re: Jumping and Surfing!
I use jump maps a lot (mostly just rocketeer) when I'm working on my soldier play, but I'm not really into the dedicated jump/surf maps thing...
...that being said, I might want to try it out at some point given that nailing rocketeer with Ronald Jenkees in the background makes me feel like I'm flying.

That's why I've been sticking to beginner maps. They tend to be a lot more forgiving, and don't require ridiculous trick jumps. At least, not early in the map!6Larry9 wrote:I've tried both but jump maps I usually get stuck on then 20 minutes later I give up.

YNWA -- why not get a mouse and a pad for that there lappy?
I don't personally like jump/surf maps, but I do love to jump/airstrafe -- very useful skills indeed.

Absolutely love jump maps but I haven't been playing a lot of them.
Anyone who's looking for a good primer should look up rj_rocketeer or jump_adventure. Both are good (albiet old) maps for practice!
