You could do that in MW4 cheese, but I don't know about the new one.

Re: MechWarrior Online
After watching Crimson play I went ahead and gave the MWO guys $30 for the cheapest Founder's deal, which comes with beta access.
The game is pretty fun, and it's quite easy to get into a game with someone on your friends list, though once it did put us on opposite teams.
As with every other online PvP game having someone on your team in teamspeak made a huge difference, more proof that teamwork=OP.
It's worth noting that this is completely different from a FPS game, it's closer to a simulation game with how the controls/movement function

W and S control throttle, A and D control turn. Mouse controls elevation and torso turning.
It's quite easy to loose track of which way your torso is pointed relative to your direction of motion.

Re: MechWarrior Online
Back in the mid-'90s, there was a box set made for Battletech that covered Solaris VII arena dueling rules. It broke the usual 10-second turn sequence into an even more-granular series of 2.5-second events.
It occurs to me that that's the mindset I should have for the computer game with regard to heat management.
The S7 box also contained designs meant for the arena that had giant clusters of machine guns, or, more usefully for this, a small number of lasers and for what would be the regular boardgame a ridiculous overabundance of heat sinks. That would be about right for MWO.

I remember doing the Solaris VII competitions in mechwarrior 4. Bringing an Adder into a light match is not very sporting but it is fun.Flaming Cheese Wheel wrote:Back in the mid-'90s, there was a box set made for Battletech that covered Solaris VII arena dueling rules. Re: MechWarrior Online
Since I seem to have lost a lot of C-Bills since the last time I played, I had to make a rather modest Catapult-K2 modification that runs two AC/10s, two MLs, adds CASE, keeps the same armor... and only moves 3/5.
I still haven't been credited a kill with the thing, but I did get eight assists in two missions.
I also got to experience LRM SPAMSPAMSPAMSPAMSPAMSPAMWONDERFULSPAM in River City tonight. The other team was running almost entirely missile boat Atlases and Cats.

My personal favorite mechs are a pair of atlases, and a hunchback that manages 100kph with a standard engine and still has damage potential.

Re: MechWarrior Online
Both of my random spectating curiosities were Awesomes: One with with 6 MPLs and the other with a similarly-light armament and zillions of heat sinks.
This sort of no/low-heat modification I'm familiar with from previous games: The main problem continues to be a lack of hardpoints, so put in heat sinks...

There are no more planned wipes until the final wipe on start of open beta. After open beta there will be no more wipes, and the game is considered live.

Re: MechWarrior Online
I've been driving something that looks like this for the last month or so (in the few instances when I've played):
It's basically a RFL-3C, only with some semblance of enough armor. Because it is oh so very slow.
And yes, I mentioned this thing a few posts back, but here it is with stats! Also, the original version didn't have AMS, but did have more armor.

Re: MechWarrior Online
I have recreated my personal shotgun mech:
Atlas D-DC
300Standard engine
2x LB10-X in Right Torso (ballistic shotguns)
3x SRM6 is Left Torso (rocket packs, think rocket shotguns)
Anti-missile system
Things get sandblasted.
