How To Start?
I've owned L4D2 for quite some time, but it seems like every time I attempt to play, I'm hated on by the other people in the group simply because I don't know what I'm doing. I haven't been able to get a full match in, mostly because I keep getting kicked by everyone else on the team (not on The Ville, just in general).
My main question is this: How do you start playing L4D2 when people are so intolerant of people who don't know what they're doing? Is there a good place to start? And playing by myself is no fun, so that's pretty much out of the question. I can just stick to TF2 if that's the case.

Co-op with some Villuns might be a good start.

You can just ask some Villuns that you see regularly playing L4D2 (Alizee, Checkm8, Mortis, ect..). I also like to play from time to time, add me on steam (click "add" on the little steam window under may name.) and maybe we can get a game going tonight.

Re: How To Start?
I certainly sympathize with the pain of trying to learn a game after many people are vets, but it is admittedly one of those games where it's painfully frustrating to have an inexperienced teammate when you're trying to play a serious game. In many situations, it is the difference between living and dying.
My suggestions are
1) Tell the people you're playing with, upfront, that you're new
2) Listen very carefully to everything they say, and make sure to respond to it/do what they ask
3) Play with friends, or friendly folks, who are willing to help teach while they play.
Though as you say, single player isn't fun, you should run through every map at least once or twice to learn what the layout is, where spawn points are, and to satisfy any urge to explore wierd areas. During a game isn't the time to do those things.

I'm another one of residents here that plays prolly more than I should. Please feel free to add me and we can get you up to speed no problemo! As others have said I would recommend playing campaigns with friendlies(i.e. us villuns ) and get the lay of the land then move into vs. if you are so inclined.

Re: How To Start?
I played one L4D2 Vs. match ever, had the same experience you described, and have not played a multiplayer online game outside The Ville since. True story.
Add me if you like, I've played the campaigns too many times to count in single-player so I know the layouts pretty well. I'm still not that good at the game though... we can learn together!

If by yourself, just do some single player and test out some ways to play.

Re: How To Start?
I think my issue with single player is that playing the maps through for the first time usually involves wandering around until you find some random door you need to make it through... by the time I actually find the door I'm dead. :/

Yes it's frustrating at times, but if you give up because of that, this may not be the game for you. Quite frustrating and difficult at times. But that's what makes surviving so much more sweet!

Lower the difficulty so you can spend more time exploring the maps?belak wrote:I think my issue with single player is that playing the maps through for the first time usually involves wandering around until you find some random door you need to make it through... by the time I actually find the door I'm dead. :/
