Haha Regis.
A more relevant piece of news - ATI's former CEO resigned from AMD yesterday.

AMD's not in the greatest of shape right now.

Normally I'm an AMD guy, but just recently I was looking at getting a new machine and I was leaning more towards an Intel chip. Right now I have 3 (working) machines, 2 desktops and a laptop. I would like to consolidate down to just one, I would probably have a Windows OS (maybe), then partition it off with a couple of Linux distros behind it.
Now it's just a decision of whether I want to have a desktop or laptop as my system.

Build your own desktop!

I'd love too, but there are just too many options. Finding a board with the right slots, port, connections (that I'll need.) Do I want to run with an AMD or Intel chip. How much RAM and hard drive space. How good of a video card (& which company: nVidia or ATI) do I want or need. Get a chasis to fix all this in...
Maybe I'm just getting lazy. But I blame work because of that.

It's auctully alot easier than you may think.
Most all boards have sufficient slots, ports, connections for the average user. If you need something a little more, There are SO MANY differnt PCI cards that you can get to suit your needs just fine.
AMD or Intel... The choice is simple... Intel.
Intel's C2D's IMHO are the best thing you can get for the money right now.
How much RAM and hard drive space, That shouldnt take too long to decide. 2GB of memory would be safe to go with. Maybe even 4GB
Video card... It depends on what you do... But the nVidia 8800 series is becomming very popular and would be an excelent choice. That + a Core 2 Duo should be able to run all the games in the next few years at full settings.
The case to put it all in... Mid-ATX cases are the most common.
Deciding on what you're going to put in it isn't any harder then using lets say Dell's customizer for their PC's... You still have to pick and choose.
Once you have all the parts, If it's your first time building a PC, it shouldn't take you longer then 1 hour, or 2 hours if you are extremly careful

If it was me, I wouldn't get a laptop.
You can hardly upgrade it, it's very expensive for what you are getting, it will become outdated much faster than one PC because you cant upgrade it....
I would stick with a desktop, if you want a nice laptop you're going to have to sink alot of money into it. You could get a desktop just as good for around half as much.

I know how easy it really is, I'm just being super lazy. I just can't decide on how good and what type of a computer I want to get. I'm thinking of leaning towards a middle-end machine.
Building one from scratch, isn't a issue either. I already have 2 of them under my belt (as well as being one month away from being A+ certified, finally.)
Upgrading won't be that big of a deal as well. This system is more going to be geared towards being used more for SOHO (small office/home office.) Which, maybe, I'll just go from 3 PCs to 2. I just need a new case and non-LED fans, for the one I'll keep one Windows and use for occasional gaming.

"Occasional" gaming? What blasphemy! what madness! Come back to the light ReeG!
hehe, I sometimes wonder what the future holds personally for PC gaming. TOo expensive, too hard to keep up with the hardware technology, and too stressful at times. If you're able to break away from the pack, kudos to you sir, kudos to you.
