Well, this is intriguing and exciting news!Counter-Strike: Global Offensive (CS: GO) will expand upon the team-based action gameplay that it pioneered when it was launched 12 years ago.
CS: GO features new maps, characters, and weapons and delivers updated versions of the classic CS content (de_dust, etc.). In addition, CS: GO will introduce new gameplay modes, matchmaking, leader boards, and more.
"Counter-Strike took the gaming industry by surprise when the unlikely MOD became the most played online PC action game in the world almost immediately after its release in August 1999," said Doug Lombardi at Valve. "For the past 12 years, it has continued to be one of the most-played games in the world, headline competitive gaming tournaments and selling over 25 million units worldwide across the franchise. CS: GO promises to expand on CS' award-winning gameplay and deliver it to gamers on the PC as well as the next gen consoles and the Mac."
CS: GO is being developed by Valve in cooperation with Seattle-based Hidden Path Entertainment. The title is targeted for release in early 2012 and will be playable at this year's PAX Prime and London Games Festival.

I suppose it's possible, but unless CS:S gets it's own Mann Co. Store to actually build some revenue, the CS brand is too strong not to cash in on with a new sequel.

The great question remains of whether it ends up like CS:CZ though. That game was terrible by my understanding.

Condition Zero was simply... unnecessary. Then again, IIRC it came out as training wheels for newbies.
This new thing... I don't think 1.6 will ever be surpassed simply because it is so simple to start with.

Re: Counter-Strike: Global Offensive
They are in pre-beta now and are taking lots of input from top competitive players. It sounds like VALVe wants to make this a solid competitive game. They seem to be moving more towards the professional "e-sports" scene (I hate the word e-sports but I guess that's what they call pro gaming nowadays) with their $1,000,000 Dota 2 tournament. I am also excited that their is going to be a ladder system and matchmaking system because I can only assume that, like all other CS games, I will be terrible at this one too. With a ladder/matchmaking system a la Starcraft 2 I'll get to play against people who are also not very good.
Anyway, I'm excited. Apparently they expect the beta to begin in the fall and the release to be early 2012.

I may play this with villuns but otherwise pass. I am not into overly competitive games. I hate Wendel. Gaming should not be a profession. I like playing simple games with people who aren't all serious business.

I think that's a trailer for Counter-Strike Online, which was a F2P version released in Asia.

Re: Counter-Strike: Global Offensive
IGN did a thing on it with 3 videos if anyone wants to check it out. I wasn't impressed. While valve thinks they are getting into the e-sports thing the videos made it look dumbed down.

Re: Counter-Strike: Global Offensive
Huh, so basically, it's CS:S with a reskin and 5v5 comp mode.
The moly and the couple minor re-routes are good and all, but in regards to gameplay, that looks like a 100% identical game, just with better graphics. Fast and brutal fights, pistols still woefully underpowered, and accuracy still rubbish. Good clean fun, but I hope they do change a couple more things before release (obviously they will, it doesn't come out for a while, but I mean a couple of those specific things).
