Driiiivers

Post by Ixtab » Tue Jul 19, 2011 5:14 pm

So, it looks like I have to reinstall windows after spending ours getting it to work again... It probably wouldnt hurt to do it anyway, and I guess I should have just done that to start.

Anyway, I know ninite.com is an excellent help in getting things in order post-install, but what about drivers? I used to use driveragent to scan for drivers needed and install them. It was very handy when I had a subscription. Does anyone know of any freebie sites/software to do this? I know there are a ton of sites that advertise a free scan, but to actually download the drivers you have to pay, which is kind of a scam.

If not, I will just update my video and audio drivers for now, and deal wit any other driver issues when they come up.. at least win7 is pretty okay for a lot of drivers on a fresh install.

I know you. You are a hoarder. You cant be seriously telling me that you dont still have all the original CDs and what not, for all of the hardware you have, with the original drivers on them.

I would make sure you get the mobo drivers updated as well instead of running on the Win7 drivers.

Driver Agent is the only thing like what you are talking about that I have ever used. I canceled the subscription within 48 hours though.

Yeah, I likely do have all my old disks, but finding them is another issue. Also, drivers on disks are likely out of date. Also, having them all in one place via driver agent is so much more handier than going through a bunch of disks.

I have never used a 3rd party agent to get my drivers. I just go to the websites of my hardware and download everything. Usually takes about 20 minutes if you know everything you are looking for.

If you are using Win 7, it does a pretty excellent job of finding all your drivers. If no, Frost's solution works well.

Don't you have a 10 hour youtube video to watch? 20 minutes is nothing!

the nyan is over.. I survived, and have not gone insane.... but I did also spend time doing drivers the long way. It's actually not much of a pain, but really, anything that will trim down a windows reinstall is good.
