Swear Filter on Servers
Swear Filter on Servers
Someone recently asked a question in the TF2 forum about the swear filters, and it reminded me I've been meaning to ask why my chats are often blocked with no foul language in them. What exactly is going on here?

Sometimes you can find bad words within innocent words or if you move spaces around. The filter isn't very smart.
Re: Swear Filter on Servers
it does give back a lot of false positives, maybe read back over what you read to see if there are any hidden swears.. like stevo said, it isn't very smart.

An example might be if you typed "As soon as possible"
It would calculate he first 3 letters as a swear word and cause it to be blocked.

Yeah, it can filter some strange things. You can be typing something like "Push it" during a payload match and it will catch it for the perceived swear in there.

Of course, people from a certain town called 'S c u n t h o r p e' in England are going to have a really hard time explaining where they're from.
It's not our plugin and doesn't work the way we want.
If you know enough regex, you could try and rewrite it!

Can't go on that now. I'm using my godfather's laptop, and, apparently, his JavaScript is on O.o
Thanks, Blah! I owe you one!

I know I used to/still might get a warning for using the word "**********" on the servers.
But then again, that may just be Dog trying to get me to stop saying that word.

Re: Swear Filter on Servers
I realize that it might find swears in innocent sentances, and maybe I'm just not looking hard enough, but I swear (no pun intended) that I'm typing completely clean sentances.
Perhaps I need to think more dirty and see the bad words better...

I would like to take a stab at fixing this ridiculous regex then. Got flagged last night for "Can't you just smash it back into metal."Dog wrote:Of course, people from a certain town called 'S c u n t h o r p e' in England are going to have a really hard time explaining where they're from.

Dumb though it may be, it's better than nothing. It catches a lot more actual language than false positives, I'm certain.
