Insane spawn-camping in Ramadi

Post by HarryMckay » Tue Nov 25, 2008 10:43 pm

I'm not sure whether this is a flaw in the map, or just a flaw in the people who play Insurgents, but the last few games I played in the map Ramadi, the Insurgents bum-rushed and began camping our spawn exits, giving us NO chance of getting out. They had people parked right outside the exits where we jump down, backed up by snipers/RPGs down the map. When called on it, they gave bullshit excuses like "im just tryin to get to B" which, given the map, is clearly a lie. Not gonna name names, mainly because at least half their team was doing it, but something has to be done.

That map is absolutely horrible if the T's decide they want to spawn camp. A sniper, MGer and RPG'r down by the alley can pretty much wipe any marine coming out of spawn, and there's the stairway too that they can camp on.

The window in the marine spawn needs to have a clear view down to the alley entrance, but if it had that, people would just spam RPG's into it.

It's a terribly designed map. Spawn camping is tactically sound by the insurgents on this map (even by the marines if they can manage to get there) since guarding that one road protects all points.

I consider it poor map design to have all the spawn exits empty out onto the same street... but that may be personal opinion.

I'd imagine it would be kind of hard to police on the server too since really, that eliminates a good 33% of the map for either side if they can't guard the street.

I hear you though, that was a frustrating game ><

call in an admin if that happens.

Im sure you can add me and the other admins that play on the server to your steam friends list.

Alternately, you can get screenshots and demos and post in the complaint department, but that usually takes more time than just getting an admin on scene.

I guess the best way to solve that issue, if half or full team is definitely (exit) spawn camping, first to ask the Insurgents to fall back and if that dose not help to do map change to the next map.

Doing a scramble would force players to play on a side where they would not like to play and they would start trying to switch sides. They also could get fed up.

My recommendation is definitely to get an admin as soon as possible into the game.

scramble and team switch are not supported by the insurgency.

I think this map should be removed altogether. I was playing insurgents side, and even the marines camp spawn if the insurgents dont. Then the insurgents camp marines side in retaliation, or insurgents just camp altogether without warning (namely the =FREE= guys).

I actually joined this forum specifically to contest that map being thrown off.

Thanks,

Matt

I'd thought I'd add my reccommendation to taking this map of the list until it is fixed.

I'm a late night (US time) player a couple times a week. And nearly everytime I play this map the INS side has at least one or two guys who will always head for the Marines left exit area and stay there. Admins are rarely on at this time.

Asking INS to stop almost never works. Last night I did it back in retaliation and killed probably 20 guys straight and asked them if they thought it was fun....and to please stop. Next time out the spawn there was more on the left. Even a dose of what the marines were getting didn't faze them.

I have even swapped sides and run to where they guys exit camp and throw smoke at their feet and they still continue (while asking them to stop).

The number of people on the server often drops dramatically during the map's time in rotation.

Just a question too. Why does it seem that so many asian players use the exit camping strategy so much? I seen many a good round were only one guy with boxes for a name (yeah, no foreign character set for me) will run repeatedly to the exits and we cannot communicate with them to ask them to stop.

I know that in many Asian countries, Japan especially, the entire culture is built around being the best you can, and screw everyone else. It's why Japan has such a huge suicide rate: people who fail would rather die than try to fix their mistakes.

I guess this "ethic" transfers over into games as getting the highest score, not having your team win. And, in their twisted way, they think that keeping the other team from being able to play counts as an "honorable" way to win. The problem with the internet connecting the entire world so intimately is that it doesn't take into account cultural differences.

As for the language barrier... It's beyond me why they'd join a game in which they can't even communicate with others. There surely must be many servers running this game over there, if it's so popular. But maybe they know they can't compete with an entire server playing as cut-throat as them, so they come where nobody else uses those tactics.

Perhaps there's a way that the server can block people with incomprehensible (to English speaking people, at least) character-based names? Block all the extended ascII characters, and non-English language sets? That would also help keep out the CS-idiots/leet-speak kiddies who use stupid names, who end up TKing and making racist/inappropriate comments. Or failing that, block Asian IPs? I know that's a bit harsh, as there are English-speaking people from those countries who aren't spawn-campers, but something has to be done...

I'm certainly against racism, and don't condone segregation of any sort (except for those Neptunians with their slimy cilia and funky odors! :P ) but the fact is this is an American English based server, and people joining who can't speak the language and/or won't obey the rules, only make the rest of us quit in frustration, as I have many times.

EDIT: I don't want to see this map taken out of rotation, or any other (I miss Samwah!) because some ass-hats are ruining things for the rest of us. There has to be some solution other than that!

I'm hoping that the map is edited to make it so that spawncamping isn't possible, or barring that, make it so that any would-be campers are extremely easy targets for their intended victims. Other than the layout making it too easy to be spawncamped, I rather like it.

It's doubtful, but perhaps adding a chinese translation of the motd rules next to the english ones may help.

Check my flag. I'm Canadian too. We live in the Americas, correct? North America? And most of us (except those in Quebec and the Maritimes, perhaps) sound very much like the average American (as in not Texan, backwoods hick, valley girl, or other regional dialects :P ) due to television and movies. When you say English, smartassed kids pop up and say "ur british???" And since the server is based in the States (at least I believe it is...) it made more sense to say American than Canadian. Remember, Americans think they rule the world, but we don't. :P

PS: Much of what I said was sarcastic.

My cousin married a guy from Newfoundland, so yes, I know you speak English there, but many people there (including him) have a VERY noticeable accent, and don't sound like your average American tv actor. :P
