It was full when I looked and I didn't want to kick someone with the reserved slot.

Hey, it's a server, it doesn't really have to do that much.

This is taken from http://planethalflife.gamespy.com/View. ... quirements
Servers use a lot of bandwidth (internet connection speed), memory and CPU/processor power. Because of this, not everyone can run a server; the most common bottleneck is the internet connection (usually isn’t fast enough). I will list a few things that are important for hosting a server—you should have at least the minimum requirements listed below—if you don’t there is no guarantee (and a high chance) that the server will not run optimally.

Today’s computers are capable of running most servers, but you should always take into consideration just what you want to host and to what level. There are limitations on everything and some machines might not even be able to run the server at all.

Processor/CPU power: To run a Source dedicated server you need at least a 1.0Ghz Intel CPU or equivalent. This will run a basic server with 20 slots at a good level of performance.

Memory: To run a normal server you will need at least 512MB RAM, you might need to restart the server every once in a while to clean up the memory. 1GB is enough to run over 60 player slots total.

Bandwidth: Bandwidth is used a lot—more specifically, upload bandwidth. Here is a list of how fast your connection must be to run a certain number of players at lowest settings. (When talking about bandwidth for servers we always talk about upload, not download.) Note: these numbers are theoretical, your results may vary slightly!
Upload Speed (Kbps) Player Limit
240 6
320 8
400 10
480 12
560 14
640 16
720 18
800 20
880 22
960 24
1120 28
1280 32
1440 36
1600 40

These values are calculated with the following formula: (5,000 * player number * 8) / 1,000
I would be very impressed with Silver's overclocking skills if he isn't kidding.

I should quantify - I'm depressed because I just e-recycled a better machine that what is descibed below. If I had know Silverone could have used it for TV4, I would have sent it to him.

If parts are needed we could have a Ville PC part drive. Silver would be up to his eyeballs in PC parts. :D

Guys I was kidding around :)

The old server was an AMD 2600+ with 2g of ram. Yep, thats all it took for years until just recently and actually the virus scanner was causing most of those problems. It was scanning the srcds process and causing the cpu usage to spike too high. Through the years when the usage goes over 50% or so the pings start to rise overall. The higher the usage, the pings also rise a bit. So the box can effect pings too, not only the bandwidth at the server or at your house. I was uncomfortable with the usage levels, so we replaced the old man.

SRCDS which is the dedicated server doesn't require a powerhouse processor at all. Its not even multi-threaded. Doesn't really need to be either. Only thing that helps is a fast cpu, good and decent amount of memory and i guess fsb would effect it. I laugh when I read "OUR SERVERS RUN ON QUAD XEONS" haha. If you want to run multiple instances (servers) off the box then that is good. Or if you are renting the server.

Of course bandwidth is more important that even the server. Its all about that first!

So the new box is a..

Intel dual core E7200 Wolfdale
Some MSI Board LGA 755, can't remember which.
4 gb of Corsair ddr2

Last night with mutiple checks the cpu usage was 0-2%. Yep.. and im not kidding. Most of the time it was at 0%, made me very happy :) Still need to monitor everything through the weekend but so far... its very nice. My legs are very happy too, I have a new place to rest my legs under my desk.

I played for a tad last night with about 10 people on and my ping was about 10-15ms better on average than before with that many people. :D

Ah, nice, Wolfdales are shiny.

I have an E8400 in my compy, the things overclock like mad.

And completly anecdotal evidence, but I felt like my headshots were registering a little bit better last night, specially on scouts. Normally I have a hell of a time actually getting one to register on a scout, but I nailed a couple on happycow alone. Of course this is probably biased because I know there is a new server.

Also can this new fancy server run Avantiville without chop? Cause Avantiville > Avanti. So much more open!

I think there's something wrong with the server (or at least my connection to it). I'm getting over 300 on my latency on TV4, but all the other servers are around 70-100.

Ok, I was seriously going what the  with Windows ME. I mean, windows ME is just awful awful awful. I hate it so much.

Oh and these new specs are just awesome. Great processing power, memory and I am sure the internet connection is up to par. Thanks Silver!
