DayZ Newbie

Any advice from the veterans? I just started and I'm having a bit of a rough start. Zombie routinely see me when I'm crouched 3-400 meters away during the day.

I ended up starting near a small town, so I've had a rough time of finding supplies, in fact, the only way I got water was killing a zombie that had an empty water bottle and filling that. (After my water icon had been blinking for about 5-10 minutes!) It seems impossible to loot the small towns without a lot of ammo, and I'm down to 2 LE rounds.

1. Hop on TS to see if any DayZ vets are on.

2. Don't let Zeds intimidate you. Use buildings to your advantage. If you have a train take them in a building with multiple exits.

3. Use http://dayzdb.com/map

4. Hit grocery stores, and apartments when possible.

5. Get a map in game and use way points (shift + left click with map open)

6. Don't become reliant on the in game map to navigate.

Thanks. My trouble has been finding buildings with more than 1 exit. Been stuck in dinky little towns. I spawned in electro or cherno once, and a full ghili suited sniper chased me into the coffee shop and unloaded with an AR. (He had been sniping me when I hit the fire stations.) Which channel is the one you guys use the most? 3?

I got eaten and respawned near Cherno. That with a few friendlies running around has changed my luck. I've got a pretty good kit right now. Yay!

My early advice would be to get away from the coast as soon as you can. With so many players in such a small area you've got a high probablilty of being spotted and subsequently killed. If you're still by Chern I'd suggest heading Northwest to Zelenogorsk, it has a grocery store and not many players travel to it. For me it was a great staging town for getting supplies prior to setting off for the Northern part of the map.

I'm trying to take a relaxing weekend, so I should be around.

If you guys wanna play some DayZ add me to Steam Friends and hop in TS.

I can hook you guys up, take you to the airfield, etc.

Yesterday I was doing pretty well. Fixed up a truck, raided Stary and a crash site. To bad the server I was on either messed up or my truck was stolen but atleast I still have my L85a2. I will most likely be heading out for a day in the cities today but if I see you on teamspeak I'll pop in to say hi Shifty.

There is a patch coming September 6th. At this point the server will be updated to the newest version.

Hey Biker, where are you seeing information about this patch? I've been checking out the dayzmod.com forums for any news, and all I've seen is a post from Rocket saying that 1.7.3 is not ready. (Aug 31)
