Play around with some of the different weapons. It can take a bit to find the weapon types you like as each of them have a different feel, speed, etc.
I feel the Halbred/Poleaxe for the Vanguard or the Hammer/Longsword for the Knight is generally a good place to start.

Been playing this before almost all of y'all picked it up. Yea it's awesome!!! But archery is HARD and nobody likes it when you play as one anyway. Other than that, the fighting mechanics are amazingly good!
